I bought this for the little boy I tutor and he was so excited about it. He's still in Kindergarten, but I told him this would be a good book for him to practice with over the summer. The book is huge and colorful and fun and he was so into it that he worked on it on his own time.

Face it - kids love coloring, anything colorful (every page is colorful!), stories, etc. and this book has it all. It's thorough and entertaining for them. It doesn't feel like work.

I strongly recommend this to all parents who have kids who are about to enter the 1st grade...

I have twins boys who worked on this book while they were still in Kindergarten. They have some other 1st grade workbooks as well, but I must say that this is the best. I especially like Reading Comprehenshion, Grammar, Addition & Subtraction & Math sections of this book. But my kids loved Maps. We used Kindergarten workbook of same series when they were in preschool and it was very thorough as well. I plan to get them more workbooks from same series as they as grow.

Overall, I would say that if you are looking for difficult contents for your kid that would challenge him then it is good for you. But if you just want some additional practice then go with other series like BrainQuest, which is easier but still provides good contents for extra practice.

We are home schooling and we use this book when I am sick, or there is something going on that makes it hard to plan a full blown lesson for our son. We own other worksheet resources but this seems to follow the first grade curriculum the best. I skim through it and find a few pages that match up with the work we are doing and he is set for the day.
I wouldn't use this as a complete curriculum, but as a supplement it is great.

This is a great well rounded book, but watch out, it is not a unique book. It actually is about 5 of their smaller books bound into one book. When I figure this out I returned it because I already had the book in the smaller versions. If you do not have any other Scholastic books then this is the one to get. If you own some other scholastic books then you may get duplications.

I bought this workbook for my 4 years old daughter. This is an excellent workbook to teach or introduce to your kid. It has quiet complete subjects for the kids. I have finished this workbook and try to find another one and try to compare it with Brain Quest. It has nothing compare to Scholastic. I fully recommend this workbook compare to Brain Quest. It has very thorough information and test practice skills for your kids to review.
Excellent!! Excellent!!
Fully recommend this workbook.

No matter what subject a student may struggle with or concept, this book has it all! It allows for learning in a fun way and also can provide practice with tests.

Should you not want to do a lot of work in one sitting, this book can have you divide it into pages.

We used this book during the Summer to help my son remember what he learned in Kindergarten and start developing his first grade skills. He is now armed and confident going into the new school year.

The 1st grade curriculum for Math and comprehension are presented very interestingly to motivate kids of that age group. My son loves doing this book.
