In the past, I did not feel like children should use test workbooks this early. After we enrolled in Beestar weekly reading program (an excellent web site http://www.beestar.org), we realize that there are so many kids doing so well. No wonder the standard tests keep raising the bar. A low expectation from parents only leads to low achieving children. This book boosts your child's vocabulary, reading, and test taking skills effectively. It gives you a good chance to know how much your child learned in school. No matter how he was taught, the book would cover the bases and practice what he learned. We enjoyed this fine book very much!

This workbook was exactly what I was looking for. My son was having problems with Reading Comprehension and this workbook was perfect. We've seen results already.

This has been a big help to the children that I tutor. The third graders have anxiety problems with reading sections and comprehension answers. The selections are short enough not to be too intimidating. Good job! I have the math tests too and they work well for my math students.

I bought the 4th grade book for my son. There are many short stories that test on recall and inference. There are also pages at the end of each section that deal with synonyms and antonyms which will help to increase vocabulary. I am a teacher and I purchased the book for my third grade class. I think it will be very beneficial to them.

This book has been very helpful allowing my intervention students in 3rd and 4th grades get used to the testing format. It has taken a lot of their fear of the tests away.

This is great for readers who need practice taking reading tests, but are reluctant readers and/or have short attention spans. There are basically just short passages throughout the books, with 3-5 questions following each (typically, two of these fit on one page).

Short passages, not like a real reading test, but great practice for those readers described above!

Loved these two books.I bought them for my daughter that is going into the third grade and having trouble with comprehension. The passages are short enough for her that she doesn't loose interest.Many are about nature, history and science, so she is learning that in addition to the comprehension. She is enjoying the books and is able to do them on her own and she looks forward to doing them.My only wish is that I could find more just like these.

My son is a reluctant reader and has scored poorly in reading comprehension and vocabulary on standardized tests. I asked him to do one test a day during summer vacation (this book contains 15 tests, so it's only 3 weeks of weekday work). At first he was upset that I was making him work. But now (week 3), he actually gets the book out before I ask him. The reading passages are short and interesting. He usually gets 100% correct, which helps his confidence. The vocabulary sections really help to expand his vocabulary. I have no idea if this test corresponds accurately to the standardized test he takes at school (the Iowa Test). But I am happy that it reduces his anxiety regarding test-taking, shows him that reading can be fun and interesting, and improves his vocabulary skills. I plan to continue using these test books each year.

Easy to use. Will be getting 4th grade work book. My daughter likes it and feels like the work book helps with her school work.
