Disclaimer: I was one of the supporters of the project ($30 - hey, I got my name in the credits and a signed DVD of the series). Freddie Wong and his people have even put the budget for the movie on his web site, something that was interesting as well.

I had pretty high hopes for the project, and was "slightly" disappointed as it unfolded with each episode released sequentially as I was watching the web based episodes as they came out. But, I was much more impressed with the finished product. As a stand-alone movie this is a fairly well done (VERY well done technically) teen flick. It has a lot of elements from 1980's teen movies (lovingly nostalgic) and is coupled with state of the art "off the shelf" cgi and special effects. Though violent, it's a bloodless violence since most of the action scenes take place in video game land.

Since you can watch full episodes of this series on the web (see: very popular video web site with the name that starts with the penultimate letter of the alphabet) I recommend checking at least the first episode out that way. If you find it enjoyable, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend viewing the entire series as a single film here at Amazon.

Saturday afternoon with popcorn in hand is my recommendation. Here's hoping that season two of VGHS is good enough for me to give it a full 5 out of 5 stars. Until then, this specific film gets 4 out of 5 for being a slightly uneven, yet still worthy, fun watch.

This was a great show about: you guessed it, video games in a high school. But it's more than that, rather a high school dedicated to training gamers. An fun story line with epic effects, VGHS is probably one of the best web series shows I've seen in a long time, and that's saying something. While at times the jokes are groan worthy, there is a wealth of video game humor just a click away. Don't go AFK on this one, watch it fellow gamers, watch it.

To respond to what certain people have said, the first episode in this case, was not a pilot, it was a youtube show that did well enough, that Netflix had interest in it. I had no part in the building of this show but I love this show and will honestly say that it is my favorite show out there.

And to be honest, everything that was said about judging by the first episode, was incorrect. NOTHING that was an estimation about the show that you had said was correct. This show DOES have cliché characters at points, but they are still unique.

This show has ended and I am actually saddened by this. I am actually a film producer myself, along the same lines as Freddie Wong. And I got attached to this show as well as I get attached to my own work. That is something special, coming from the producing side of things.

Video Game High School is a unique insight into the video gamers world. The story is exciting with excellent performances by the students moving from reality to virtual reality. Computer graphics are simulated in colorful third dimension images. Recommended for all ages, especially parents who wonder what their children are doing, as they interact in a seemingly physical way, behind the video screen.

I was fiddling around on YouTube the other day when I came upon episode one of this series. It caught my attention, and, me being a huge gamer, I loved it. I proceeded to watch the entire season in one day, and it was amazing. The CGI looks great, and the characters are engaging. It has every important element of high school you can possibly imagine, while replacing sports teams with games such as a Call of Duty-like FPS, a Street Fighter-esque 2D fighter, a dance game inspired by Dance Dance Revolution, a drift racing game like Need for Speed, and even a rhythm game- with real guitars. And it's funny! A lot of it is kind of obscure if you're not a gamer, but it's entertaining nonetheless. The IRL segments are just as entertaining as the in-game ones, if not more so, and there's even a huge real-life fight scene in the latter half of the season. I think VGHS is a lot better when watched as a show rather than a movie. I think the plotline just lends itself more to that format. The acting is spectacular. However, the show focuses mainly on an FPS game called Field of Fire, and since I don't really play those games, it was hard for me to relate. Overall, though, VGHS is funny, thrilling, dramatic, romantic, and sad all at the same time, and it's a great buy. Easily the best web series I have ever seen.

It's corny but it's fun. There's not enough movies about the phenomena that is video games and I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I grew up loving the video games of the late 1980s and 1990s, and I absolutely loved this series/film. It's like a Disney tween movie, but for gamers (even old ones, like me!). Lots of great gaming references, surprisingly good production quality, and a great cast of characters. I was especially impressed with the use of several strong female characters. I also liked how they featured some gaming genres besides first-person shooters (though an FPS game was central to the plot, and they even addressed some tension around the popularity of the FPS genre). Overall, it was a lot of fun to watch. Definitely a guilty pleasure for me. I can't wait for the next series/film!
