There's Always One in the Bunch (A review of 'School Bus'),
This review is from: School Bus (Paperback)
Okay, there's always one in the bunch that runs contrary, and I guess, in this case, it's us .
My just turned 3 year-old son and 5 year-old daughter could care less about this book. It was on my entering-kindergarteners Summer Reading List and I suppose they thought that kids would be fascinated by the concept of riding a bus to school... but mine weren't. Probably because there was no plot and little of interest other than the nice pictures of yellow buses. Text follows, which may or may not help you decide if this book is a good choice for your home shelves: "Yellow school buses large and small. Empty yellow buses cross the town. Stop. Go. Going this way. Going that way. Here it comes. See you later. Full Buses head for school. Here we are. Right on time. Empty buses wait. School's over. Full buses cross the town. Home again. Home again." Two Stars. Unrelenting parade of the standard yellow school bus. Nice art, but no story.

A favorite with my toddler,
By
This review is from: School Bus (Paperback)
School buses are very bright, distinctive, and sometimes mysterious things to a toddler. In the story, we see what "a day in the life of a bus" is like. Buses have homes. People have homes. Buses stop. People stop. It's a wondeful analogy that she understands.Donald Crews' books are favorites around the house because of their very colorful pictures and simple text. Also recommended: Freight Train, Parade.

preschoolers love this book,
By A Customer
This review is from: School Bus (Paperback)
This is a favorite of my preschoolers. The simple text is a great tool for teaching concepts including opposites. We would count the schoolbuses on the first page and discuss other concepts on every page. Children at this age love to read themselves(whether they recognize the words or not)and the simple text in Schoolbus allows them to read the book with ease. For children who ride a bus or may soon ride a bus, it becomes a personal story about their experience. I am purchasing it for my one year old along with several of Crews other books.
