Grade 3-5-- School does wait, while Jack and his dull-as-dishwater parents traipse around the globe returning a variety of wildlife to their natural habitats. It begins when Jack and his father find a reindeer lost in the woods. The whole family hops on a plane to return the lost Blitzen to Santa, beginning a chain of globe-trotting repatriations. A typical chapter takes readers from one country to the next in the span of about eight pages, allowing little room for developing setting or characters. The text is all dialogue and action, peppered heavily with Briticisms. Jack's mother is stereotypical; her greatest interest is getting Jack to school, no matter what else might happen. The caricatured black-and-white illustrations are well suited to the text, with nearly every page sporting a drawing.
