About the author?Mark Droretsky was one of the srongest International Master in 70's, he won Rusia chess champion in 1973 and Wijk aan Zee 1975. Almost a Grand Master. He didn't reamin active player for personal reason. He gain the fame to be the best trainer and coach in the world, because any 2200 player, becomes in GM. About the book? This book is not the tipical basic principles of develoment, he aproach very deep aproach, not variation, how to think. I enjoy this book. He gave many games and sometimes ask you What White or black move? This make you to think at last he gave the anwers i write why is the best move. Beginer player, maybe could find helpful this book, but remenber for early result some tactic or strategy read is required Intermediate player or highter level, this book will help you to think when your oponent used not common moves See ya, i hope my review was helpful PD. There are other Mark's collection (school of future champions and School of chess Excellence) I enjoyed more School of Chess Excellence.

Dvoretsky is just the master. He is probably the most respected chess instructor living today; his books all testify to this fact.Be warned however that this book is aimed at a VERY high level of player - from what I understand Dvoretsky books are usually recommended to players above USCF 1800.
