Editorial Reviews

Review

"I have used the 1st and 2nd Editions since 2005 and will choose the 3rd Edition as well. This text continues to meet the needs of school-community relations courses."

Written by former teacher, principal, and college professor Douglas J. Fiore, School-Community Relations is now in an updated second edition. School-Community Relations offers the basic building blocks of a successful school-community relations plan, from how to read the pulse of the community to improving media relations, taking advantage of the electronic era of communication, making plans to cope with crisis situations, and much more. A practical-minded guide based heavily on experience, School-Community Relations is one text no high-ranking school administrator should be without.

While the book/text provided some interesting and pertinent information, much of the content was somewhat outdated (e.g., introducing the use of social media, etc.). I know it's almost impossible to keep up with rapid changes in technology and the newest teaching/leadership methods. I was able to use some of the text for reference/research.

This is probably the only book that I will keep after completing my masters degree in educational leadership. Applicable information that will serve as a reference in the future.

I found this book to be very helpful in my class. It provided good examples and great follow-up questions after each chapter.

For a textbook, this is an easy read. The book doesn't go on and on about nothing, makes sense.

Bought this for a class I was taking. Best part of the book is regarding the benefits v. pitfalls of social media. FB, YT, & twitter can be used by schools, but can also be misused. I also liked the pro/con approach Fiore used. Some of the data is dated, but I would say the book is useful for those looking to improve school citizenship.

As first year school administrator, the text not only provides the relevance of school relations in current educational trends, but it also provides helpful examples as I build/enhance my own school relations plan. Friendly chapters.

Interesting book to read. We discussed the case studies in this book in class. Some of them were ridiculous and seemed out of the norm. Some great takeaways about practical school community relations issues.
