About the Author
Laurie Coker is a published poet, short story writer, and children's book writer and illustrator. She is a professional actor of theater, film and television and a voiceover actor. She performs at poetry readings in her hometown of Austin, Texas and wrote a children's play, Earning an Education, which was performed by the Austin Readers Theater. She wrote and performed a one-woman show, Daddy and Me, at the Austin City Theater in which she painted a portrait of her and her father while telling stories about her dad. She received her B.A. in Art and her permanent teaching certificate to teach art in the middle and high school in 1966 from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. After retiring from the public health promotion field, she began substitute teaching career. In School Daze, she describes in poetry form her twelve-plus years of substitute teaching experience, grades pre-K through twelve, its joys, triumphs, perils, disappointments with an acute insight and unique perspective.
