PreSchool-K–This simple title presents one concept per page. Each spread features a scene, with the English word on one side and the Spanish on the other. The delightful watercolor illustrations show ethnically diverse students engaged in various activities indoors and out. Escuela./chool, Niños./Children, Clase./ Classroom, Maestra./Teacher, Columpio./Swing, and Amigos./Friends are some of the concepts both illustrated and labeled. A useful and appealing tool for early ESL classes or beginning Spanish lessons.

PreS-Gr. 1. The author of
!Fiesta! (1996) and
!Siesta! (2005) offers another pleasing picture book in Spanish and English, this one introducing words related to school, from
Alpabeto / Alphabet to
Mi escuela / My school. Spanish illustrator Escriva contributes delightful line drawings, textured with shading and colored in soft watercolor washes. Each double-page spread celebrates a school experience. A diverse group of children happily engage with one another and their teacher as they work in the classroom and play at recess. Unsually large in scale, the distinctive figures of the children show up well from a distance, making the book a natural for group sharing. The pictures also offer a good focal point for parents to discuss what happens in school. Sure to be in demand at the beginning of every school year.
