“The devotions found in School Is Where the Home Is are exactly what my homeschool days need! Anita opens the door to her home and heart to share soul-stirring wisdom for how God can transform your homeschool journey into all that the Lord longs for it to be—both for you and your children. Whether you’re new to homeschooling or a veteran, these devotions will lighten your load, brighten your mood, and heighten your awareness that God is with you every step of the way.” --Amy Wallace, author of the Defenders of Hope series and homeschool mom of three, navigating high school, middle school, and elementary school with a smile—most days

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Homeschooler But Still Found Take-Homes... June 25, 2011
Format:Paperback
Anita Mellott speaks from a unique homeschool perspective in this valuable resource for homeschoolers. Raised in India with a strong focus on education, Anita adds the spice of her cultural background to many of her daily entries.

The tone of the daily devotions (enough for the entire school year, 180, and broken into categories touching the homeschooler's life) is conversational. Anita feels more like a friend who shares triumphs and struggles, successes and failures rather than a woman who has conquered homeschooling, parenting or marriage. Mellott is transparent in this not always flattering walk through wisdom earned through years and seasons of homeschooling. This is no narrow pathway or system created by a woman who preaches about her success and promises you success, too, if you'll only follow her steps..

If you are struggling or concerned about homeschooling or even parenting you may find support and encouragement in this devotional series. I haven't homeschooled a day in my life, and my children are grown, but I still found pages to dog ear to revisit.

Format:Paperback
I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking reassurance, guidance, confirmation or just an uplifting look at the ups and downs of Home Schooling. Between the challenges of juggling every day life, teaching your children, work, play and family, it can be discouraging to not have a support system in place. Anita's book will give you the uplifting and powerful devotions needed to see every parent through those challenges with grace and harmony.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful daily inspiration for the homeschooling parent December 19, 2011
Format:Paperback
I had the pleasure of receiving an e-copy of School is Where the Home Is by Anita Mellott and this unassuming book is packed with lots of encouragement for the homeschooling mom and even dads. It's chock full of 180 devotions (one for each day of school?) that will help you get your day off right and be a positive teacher to your children. We all know that some days don't go as planned, our lesson plans fall to the wayside and we feel like failures - beginning your day reading this devtional by veteran homeschooling mom, Anita Mellott, will help in getting your day off to a positive start.

The devotions are divided and categorized as follows:

A Faith of Their Own - devotions that aid the parent in making sure they instill a love of God in their children
And A Child Will Lead Them -benefits of homeschooling and seeing life through our children's view
Gifts We Give Our Children - the untouchable gifts that will help us disciple our children and bring them up according to the Lord
Homeschool basics - practical help
Homeschool Foundations - Biblical reasons why we homeschool
Homeschool and Family- Help and practical encouragement to keep school, life, home and relationships balanced
Homeschool and You - for the primary educator how to deal with children who won't listen, those who are against homeschooling, and more.
Spiritual Vitamins - encouragement for parents from the Bible

As with other devotionals there is a main theme involved for that day's reading but it is geared specifically to the homeschooling parent(s) along with a short Scripture verse and reading to go along with that theme.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful spirtual encouragement for parents August 8, 2011
Format:Paperback
Anita Mellott shares from her heart and her life experiences in this 180-day devotional for parents. Although written with homeschool families in mind, practical applications can apply to other situations and all can glean from her practical how-to-live-a-godly-life advice. It's been years since I homeschooled, but I love children and could easily relate to her anecdotes and tips. An added bonus comes from her international perspective of growing up in India and those stories provide the flavor of another culture.

School Is Where the Home Is tags each daily reading with one of eight categories, such as "Homeschool Foundations," "Gifts We Give Our Children," and "Spiritual Vitamins." The topics are also indexed in the back. Every day begins with a Bible verse and concludes with "Digging Deeper," a way to apply or act on the day's focus. This resource can help a harried mom find an oasis of calmness as she takes a few moments daily with this inviting guidebook. The author continually reinforces spiritual lessons and points readers to their source of true strength and wisdom, the Lord.
