3.0 out of 5 stars wish there was a kindle edition
As others have said, a good, simple overview. Case studies and questions were good, but since all of the cases are readily available online, the majority of these could be eliminated and just referenced. The price tag is hefty, and in this day in age, I would definately prefer an electronic version

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Make Sense" Guide For All Educators, October 29, 2000

The author wrote this book in such a manner that a high school government student could understand the majority of the legal discussion and implications for school leaders.

Today's educator would be remiss not to read this down to earth text and not pay attention to its contents while working in today's educational environments where one is constantly exposed to being sued.

The author provides the reader with clear and understandable legal definitions, administrative summaries, landmark cases, and interesting legal situations that have occurred in public schools across the United States.

Classroom teachers, school principals, superintendents, school board members, and graduate students all come away with a sense of "I will not do that again" after reading this very practical school law guide.

While the book does not address school integration and school finance issues from a legal stance, it does an excellent job of addressing all other aspects of educational law.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every person considering the field of teaching, November 12, 2008
After using this book for a masters class, I realized that I had inadvertently broken several laws and the district I work for did, too. I don't know why this is not something required for students in a teachers' program. Every teacher should know the law before entering the classroom. It would save a lot of trouble for the district and the teacher. If you haven't read a book on school law, I recommend this one. It's not as dry as it sounds and the author tries to write in a conversational manner that makes for a relatively easy read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle version is terrible, February 4, 2012

The text itself is great, but the Kindle version has no page numbers! Very difficult to navigate. This is very frustrating.

This book was not as detailed as I had hoped. It was not as specific as I wanted. Other than that it was ok.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great reference, April 1, 2010
This book is a great tool for anyone working in the schools. Includes case studies, discussion/reflection questions, and laws to live by. There are many times when as an educator I question whether something is being done right, and this book tells me everything I need to know. I highly recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nearly New?!?!, February 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This textbook was a required text for a grad. class. I understand that a textbook should be "nearly new" after being used by an owner, however, this textbook's spine was spliting in half and every chapter was heavily highlighted. I would have thought I would have paid half the price, but not quite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and informative, October 17, 2009

This text is easy to read and informative. Sample cases provide insight into current law. Practical for both public and private school teachers and administrators.

4.0 out of 5 stars I would recommend this book, September 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is actually an easy read and it gets to the point. The only downfall I see is that there are not term definitions for most of the legal terms. I found many of the cases up to date and relevant to any school setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars School law and the public schools, April 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I teach grad level courses in school law. I used editions 2 and 3 of this text and edition 4 is much improved. Will use it for first time April 25 until late June (2009). I suspect my 24 students will like it too.
Update as of November, 2010. My students did love it, as I predicted!
I have been invited to teach again in spring of 2011, but some personal issues, unfortunately preclude me from accepting that invite.
