A different take on the law school experience...,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Law School Trip (the insider's guide to law school) (Paperback)
Product Warning: This book may help save your mental health, although it will inflame your funny bone. Stressed to the max by the heavy reading, Socratic method, and other burdens of starting law school? Buy this book! Laughter really is the best medicine and this book provides plenty of it. I read one Amazon customer review of The Law School Trip that compared it to the "how to succeed in law school" books, but it's not that kind of book. Although it contains a lot of insights -- sometimes subtly disguised -- it's primarily a hilarious parody of the esteemed institution we call legal education. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

This book should be required material for every first year law student, although they will appreciate it in an entirely different way when they've got a semester or two behind them. There was not a single page of this book that didn't make me laugh out loud. If you are thinking about going to law school (and who isn't?), a law school student, a lawyer, or someone who is related to a person in one of those categories, buy this book!

You'll laugh out loud!,

A must for anyone who has ever thought about going to law school (which, as the author reminds us, is just about everyone.) McClurg must be the funniest law professor around. And there's a kernel of truth in just about everything he says. McClurg is dead on in describing types of law professors (including "The Legend," "The Radical Feminist," and "The Strange Creature from Outer Space.") He can make the deadliest dull (and most famous) cases studied in the first year of law school seem funny. And McClurg's suggested improvements to actual product warnings are absolutely hysterical. It's quite an accomplishment to make me, a lawyer, laugh out loud. Read the book and you will too.

Hilarious- and a great gift idea!,
This review is from: The Law School Trip (the insider's guide to law school) (Paperback)
This book is a must read for any attorney or law student. McClurg is dead-on with his humor and satire. But he doesn't just make fun of the profession- his humor is done with an obvious passion and respect for the world of law- which makes it all the more enjoyable for those of us who have chosen this crazy world for life!! If you have any lawyers or law students in your family, they will love this book as a gift. It's short and easy to read and will definitely put a smile on the face of anyone who has been to law school.

Legal Surreality,

This review is from: The Law School Trip (the insider's guide to law school) (Paperback)
"The Law School Trip" is one of the funniest books I have read in years. As a law student, I found Prof. McClurgs unique look at law school to be one of the funniest versions, and one of the truest versions, of Law School ever. The sheer absurdity of the book expresses the seperate world that exists at a Law School. If you are not a law student, fear not! This book can be read, appreciated and guffawed over by anyone. Everything is covered in this book. It begins with reasons to go to Law School and continues through the kinds of Professors to meet, the class to take, and beyond! This is a wonderful encapsulation of the ups, downs and the absolute craziness of Law School. Highly recommended.

This is a riotously funny book needed by all law students, especially those who have not yet survived their first year. Reading it will ensure that by the time they have turned in their last final exam, they will still have some warmth in their heart, some gentleness left in their spirit, and some spring left in their step, or at least it will prevent them from twitching so much. McClurg is a comic genius in addition to being a law professor. The best part of the book is that the more you read it, the funnier it gets.

Hilarious, yet true to life,

This review is from: The Law School Trip (the insider's guide to law school) (Paperback)
As a staff member in a prominent law school, I have seen it all. McClurg's anecdotes and examples ARE true to life. His twist has made me laugh out loud at work while reading it, much to the chagrin of fellow employees and faculty members.Often I have threatened to "write a book about this place". McClurg's sense of realism, coupled with his wondrous sense of humour, make the truth about law school much more palatable. My hat's off to you, McClurg!...

Pure Delight,

This book is a keeper! Since most attempts at written humor fail, it was a rare and wonderful excursion into laughdom to read Andrew McClurg's "The Law School Trip". Professor McClurg may be the next Dave Barry. Whether he's giving instructions on preparing yourself for the Socratic method or analyzing the "Horribly Evil Bluebook," McClurg's unique outlook on law school life is guaranteed to make you to make you laugh out loud. Five stars and two thumbs up!"

I am a 3rd year law student at the Univ. of Arkansas at Little Rock, and I had the privilege of taking Torts I and II from Professor McClurg (a.k.a. "Tort Man") as a 1L. Most of the reviewers so far have made it clear how gut-wrenchingly funny this book is. I wanted to point out how helpful it is, as well. You wouldn't want to use this book to prepare for your Torts final (unless you're in McClurg's class). Nonetheless, Tort Man uses humor in his class and in this book to offer insight and perspective on the law school -- and law practice -- experience. Read it and laugh out loud.Professor, if you happen to read this, thank you for leaving us this legacy. Hope you're having a blast in Florida. They are lucky to get you.

Lawyers in love. . . with laughter,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Law School Trip (the insider's guide to law school) (Paperback)
Since I'm not an attorney, nor do I plan on ever being one, I didn't pick up Andrew J. McClurg's ``The Law School Trip'' looking for secrets about how to get a law degree. I picked it up because a friend, on occasion, sends me copies of columns that McClurg writes for the ABA journal. They make me laugh, as did this book. And one of McClurg's best bits, his list of the ``top five subjects of conversation most loved by law professors,'' is both funny and good advice for law students. Compliment the professor's kid even if the tyke is ``as ugly as a moth,'' he advises. You won't regret it. In a like manner, anyone with an appreciation for intelligent humor won't regret purchasing this book.
