My review of the School of Rock soundtrack,

This is a very good soundtrack. It has an excellent mix of modern rock and classic rock songs. I really liked the title track by the School of Rock. It is a great rock song. Jack Black may not have the best voice, but the kids in the band can really play. The other song by the School of Rock It's a Long Way To The Top is another good song that highlights these talented young musicians on individual musical solos.I enjoyed the classic rock songs especially Sunshine of Your Love by Cream. It has one of the best opening guitar riffs I have ever heard. I also enjoyed listening to Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks and Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. I haven't heard these songs in years, and they sound great. I loved the songs by The Who and The Doors included on this soundtrack too. Heal Me, I'm Heartsick by No Vacancy is a beautiful rock song that I can listen to over and over. I hope to hear more from No Vacancy in the future. The School Of Rock is the one of the best soundtracks of the year. It has a great mix of old and new songs on it.

Great CD,

Yes, I did buy the cd without seeing the movie. But, I have my reasons. You see, my favorite performer sings two of the songs - Adam Pascal sings both "Heal Me, I'm Heartsick" and "Fight" with the band "No Vacancy". I was a little upset that he was given no acknowledgement on the cd for his vocal performances, but then I realized that if anyone has ever heard Adam before, they would know it's him. I did listen to the rest of the cd, and I found a lot of my favorite classical rock. Hey, who doesn't love the Doors, right. Also, the Black Keys piece was awesome as well. Still, the two songs with "No Vacancy" (to me) are clearly the best... but then again, I'm a little prejudiced, LOL. If you liked these two songs, you may wish to look at Adam's solo album "Model Prisoner" at www.adampascal.net or the soundtrack to the Musical Rent. Sorry about the biased review, I just couldn't help it.

The Movie Makes You Smile, The Songs Keep You Rockin'!!!!!!!,

Not since "Almost Famous" has a movie so embraced the love of rock 'n' roll. Jack Black and his talented young group are a revelation - proving that the love of music can transcend the odds. I think the theme song, "School Of Rock" deserves an Oscar nomination. I am not kidding!! Thematically, what other song this year fits its film better?! And Stevie Nicks should be proud. She is the only female rocker surrounded by classic male rockers (Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Doors, etc.). Mike White and crew... ya dun good!!!!!!!!!!!

A must for every rock fan!,

If you're a rock fan, like I am,this album is for you. If you saw the film and own it(VHS or DVD),this album is for you. The film's star Jack Black with the kids he worked with in the film recorded a couple of tunes from this album, the title track and IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP. The latter track also featured AC/DC. Black and the kids recorded the songs as SCHOOL OF ROCK. Memorable classic rock tunes from this album include The Doors' 1969 hit TOUCH ME(not heard in the film) and Cream's 1968 hit SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE. However,in one scene of the film,Dewey Finn(Black) and one of the Horace Green Elementary School children, are performing TOUCH ME themselves. Other great rockers are Stevie Nicks' THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN and The Who's SUBSTITUTE. This album contains a few bits of dialogue from the film also. I love HEAL ME,I'M HEARTSICK which is heard in the Battle of the Bands scene. All the other songs are great.

It Rocks!,

A great rockin' movie like "School Of Rock" deserves a great rockin' soundtrack, and such this CD is. Who can say no to an album that has classic tunes by The Who, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Cream, AND Stevie Nicks? Certainly not me! And, as an added bonus, the two songs by film stars Jack Black & the schoolkids (under their group name, the School Of Rock) are just as awesome. What more needs to be said? If you're a fan of classic rock music, then you've just *gotta* pick up the "School Of Rock" movie soundtrack. And don't forget to pick up the movie on DVD as well---it's a total keeper, just like this excellent soundtrack CD.

Definitely buy this soundtrack, but if you like the songs on it, go out and buy the albums those songs are from as well. The highlights are David Bowie, The Who, The Doors, Cream, Led Zeppelin, T. Rex, and The Ramones, so basically everything. I really hope this movie opens up new 'doors of perception' to some narrow-minded teenyboppers and their unlistenable pop stars. I'd love to hear some new bands that sound good.

A Great Assortment Of Classic Rockers And Original Material,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: School of Rock (Audio CD)
This soundtrack for "School of Rock" delivers on every level: the song selection is great, the original dialogue excerpts are amusing, and the sound quality is near perfect. The classics included cross most genres and include extremely well known monster hits like Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and lesser known, though brilliant, works like "Ballrooms of Mars" by T-Rex. The only thing on the disc I could have done without is "T. V. Eye" by Wylde Ratttz.Equal to the originals for entertainment value were the original cast recordings of "School of Rock" and especially the fabulous and funny cover version of "It's a Long Way to the Top", which is a personal favorite of mine. There are a few oddities that don't seem to fit on the soundtrack, "Edge of Seventeen" foremost among them, but after seeing the movie their presence makes perfect contextual sense. I enjoyed this CD far more than I expected to, and I recommend it to music fans or fans of the movie without reservation.

The Song JB Sings When the Girls Present the Band Name,
By A Customer
This review is from: School of Rock (Audio CD)
A few people asked about the song Jack Black sings before the girls show him the School of Rock T-shirt. It is the theme song for Computerman, an online series featuring Jack Black. You can see them at www.channel101.com.Also, regarding the "Rent/Hardcore" song, in the DVD commentary, Richard Linkletter says that it wasn't included because Jack Black wrote that song, and he is "owned elsewhere." His band, Tenacious D, is signed to Epic Records. I really wish this was on the soundtrack myself. |
