A fine book to read to your children,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Schoolchildren's Blizzard (On My Own History) (Paperback)
The language used evokes the time and place in which the story takes place. The characters are believable, and the story is inspiring because it is a retelling of an actual event. I have read all of this author's books, and my children and I are always delighted. I hope she keeps writing.

We love the pioneering spirit. This book models consideration, perseverance, courtesy, and loving your sibling. The illustrations are vivid, the emotions are real but not overwhelming, and the heroic schoolteacher and her students survive the blizzard. This book is a keeper!

"Laura's Blizzard",
This review is from: The Schoolchildren's Blizzard (On My Own History) (Paperback)
This book tells the whole story of the blizzard that Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about in her book "The Long Winter". Laura did not go into the sad details, but it's the same storm, nonetheless. Having lived in that area of South Dakota for several years, I can still feel the incredible cold and I shiver at the memories of the blizzards we encountered.

This book is a child-friendly, age appropriate version for an notable weather event that hit the Midwest long ago. A back page that eludes to more of the harsh facts is in the back, but can easily be avoided for younger children. The prose does a nice job of focusing on the heroism, rather than the negative aspects and aftermath of the storm.
