I am a wineglass snob. I thought Riedels were the best to have but I bought these from a wineshop after the owner took 2 glasses and banged them together. I was suprised when there wasn't broken glass on the floor. I have broken many of my nice Riedels and it costs a pretty penny to constantly replace. These have been absolutely the best for boating because they aren't fragile like Riedels and can handle being knocked over without cracking. These glasses are still large enough that I can easily swirl my wine. It does make a difference what type of glass you serve your wine in. I don't notice a difference in taste between these and my Riedels. The stem is about a half inch higher than Riedel Bordeaux glasses. When these 2 are placed side by side the Schotts stand over an inch and a half taller over the Riedels. Give these a try. You can impress your friends and save some money in the long term.

Compared to the ultra-breakable Riedels, these glasses are truly great. We "clanged" them side to side and they resonate like a tuning fork. We've had them fall (full of wine) on their side with no breaks. Only broke one that caught an edge. No scratches in nearly 8 months of nightly use!

Have the Riedel glass ware and already have a 'nick' in rim of one costing about $12 each....knew that day would happen and just chalked it up to 'doing business'.

- ALL the above = the only reason to NEVER buy a Riedel or other stemware of Lead Glass again.
CONS:
- CANNOT HOLD UP TO A HAMMER: FINALLY Broke one last night: done when wife dropped glass in sink and stem fell across a fry pan handle...bizzare. BUT would buy again over Riedels NO Question.

Damn these are nice. Not unbreakable but it gives you about 9 lives. Eat em up people.

My husband absolutely LOVES these wine glasses. (These will be a Father's Day gift for him, and he will be elated!) We used them 2 to 3 times a week for the last couple of years. Though I sometimes prefer a smaller glass, he loves that these are very big - the biggest wine glasses I've ever seen. They are also beautiful, and they make the perfect chime for toasting.

I am ordering our SECOND order of these wine glasses. My husband and I bought four of them a couple of years ago, and the last one finally broke in the dishwasher recently. I've always thought of ALL wine glasses as somewhat fragile and was surprised to read the reviews of those that thought these were overly fragile and also of those that seemed to think they were abnormally durable. I would say they are in between. We have lost 4 of them in 2 years, but my husband isn't exactly what you would call coordinated. (When we were dating, my sister teased me that I would have to register only for Tupperware if we got married. "No fine china for you.") Considering my husband (bless his heart), 4 wine glasses in 2 years is VERY good! Also, considering his clumsiness, the fact that I am willing to invest in an item that is even somewhat breakable shows how much he really does love them. (We DIDN'T register for even one fine china piece!)

Very nice !!! Dishwasher safe. Looks like my more expensive glasses BUT much more indestructible. I have tipped these glasses over and dropped them onto carpeted areas without breaking. Well worth the money I paid.

I bought a set of 6 of these glasses a year ago as our Reidel glasses kept slowly breaking, and these were supposed to be bullet-proof. One year later, they're all gone. Drop them on the floor, no problem, but they seem to develop microcracks around the rim and you'll be washing one and it will shatter into a zillion pieces. At the end of the day, the Reidel slowly break, but over the last year, we lost one Reidel Cabernet glass to 6 of the Schott-Zwiesel Bourdeaux glasses.

Purchased six of these based on the notion that they wouldn't break in the dishwasher. Brought them home put them in the dishwasher, with nothing but the glasses on the bottom rack I spaced them widely enough that one could not touch the next. Five of the six held up to the wash and dry cycle. But at $17 a pop I'll be hand washing these.

I love these glasses and for several reasons.

1. Nice big bowl, lots of room for wine to breathe
2. The stem is tapered at the bowl which makes it very comfortable and steady to hold.
3. Durable. No problem whatsoever washing in dishwasher, top rack. Glass knocked off
table by dog and onto wood floor. Did not break!

I am ordering more as gifts.

I have been using these glasses for years and while they are not unbreakable, they are so much stronger than anything else of this quality. And this quality is quite high. I use these for parties and gatherings and have only lost 1 or 2 after thousands of uses, I can not say that about the competition's glasswear, which breaks if you sneeze on it. Highly recommended.
