OK, but no Beast,

I love and collect Schrade knives. Mostly I own the original USA made product - good stuff. I do have a number of the new Taylor-Chinese made knives, and there's mixed results with these. Some of the Taylor product is quite good actually, but the 470T is not very good. I do like the feel of the knife, and if you don't use a knife heavily, you might just like it. But this knife is not built strongly enough to be called a beast. I work knives to death at my job, and a traditional Schrade LB7, either USA or Chinese made will give me a few year's service. I literally had my 470T break in half on the first day of use. Mind you, I was prying hard against it, but it should not have come right apart. The knife looks cool, but is not a beast. Get a traditional slip joint or lock back instead.

I purchased this Old Timer (a long time family tradition) as a Christmas gift and was disapointed with it. The knife looks cool but the actual lock on the lock blade was really cheesy and I was embarrassed to give it as a gift. I wish I'd have spent a little more money, or had had an opportunity to look the knife over before it arrived to exchange it for a better knife. I don't recommend this knife.

I had a Schrade 407T knife for over 10 years and it works beautiful. I ordered another one to have as a spare. It is now made in China. The blade does not lock properly, the weight of the knife is considerably less and the blade is softer steel. Over all the only thing the same about the knife is the name and model number. Save your money and find another knife.
