OKAY... Let's get started...
> WHAT IS IT? <
The Schrade Survival Bolo knife is a large machete-like tool that has a 14 inch, titanium coated, fine edge, 3Cr13 stainless steel blade... and comes with a large ballistic nylon sheath, diamond sharpening stone and firesteel rod.
I'll be honest with you... When my survival bolo arrived, I didn't expect much since Schrade isn't really known for producing machetes... but once I held it in my hand got it out on the mountain, my expectations quickly changed.
> MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS <
The first thing I noticed was it's rugged, substantial feel. The blade steel is pretty thick for a machete-type clearing tool at almost 4 millimeters thick, compared to the Bear Grylls Parang which is about 3 millimeters thick.
The bolo weights in at about 26 ounces or 753 grams which doesn't feel too heavy or too light with the center of gravity being about 3 inches forward of the handle.
> WHAT A CHOPPING TOOL!!! <
It's funny, but because of the weight and balance of this bolo, my first inclination wasn't to clear vegetation and bushwhack, but to chop and baton wood.
And once I found out this bolo was full tang (with the blade steel running through the length of the handle)... I was not shy testing it out on hard use tasks like chopping, batoning and splitting wood.
> A SHARP AND POINTY KNIFE <
Even after extended use the edge stayed sharp and easily sliced through underbrush.
The pointy bolo tip has stayed sharp through several days of use and is great for poking, prodding and piercing...Read more ›
If you are looking for an easy to manage blade that has some strength and is not too heavy, or bulky this may be the blade for you. It is a much needed addition to my kit, that has versatility and it looks cool too. It is a good cutting/Chopping tool. I like it a lot, and will make good use of it.

Looks good, sheath is nice, good balance. Unfortunately useless to use. Used mine to lop off legs and wings of ONE Turkey. Used a wooden chopping block. Edge of blade deformed. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Wingshot
This is an awesome knife, part sword, hardly a machete! I am a knife dealer, witnessed a guy cut through a thick roll of artificial turf like it butter! Read morePublished 5 months ago by chuck
Heavy duty blade. I was skeptical about stainless steel but this has held up to hard use and retains an edge much better than expected.Published 5 months ago by Lee J.
