I was looking for a new camping/hiking fixed blade sheath knife. I wanted something larger than a "normal" knife as I carry a multi-blade Kershaw also for smaller tasks. I saw the specs... 17.75" long, 12" blade, 5.75" handle, and three pound weight. Somehow that just doesn't describe this knife once it arrives and you hold it in your hand. It's huge and heavy. I almost returned it, but shipping would have been $10 and returning it just didn't make sense.

So... since I'm keeping it, I thought I'd review it. In a word: Quality. This is a quality piece. It's quality, especially at this price point is outstanding. There were no flaws in the example I have. It is sharp. Razor sharp. The finish is bead blasted stainless and the black carved micarta handle is very nice. The blade balances well and for its size actually handles well. It is reminiscent of a Roman short sword in its size. I also need to make mention of the leather sheath. It's a nice quality sheath; much higher quality than I expected.

Now, I haven't had the opportunity to field test this knife, and frankly, I'm not sure I ever will... it's just too big for any task I might have for it. If you're looking for an excellent value in an inexpensive machete-sized bowie, this is your knife.

This is a well crafted, well balanced LARGE heavy knife. It is about the same size as an average roman gladius. Other reviewers have said the tang stops a quarter inch into the handle, I don't see how that is possible, maybe theirs broke at the index finger grip after abuse or something, the blade is too well balanced for the tang to be that short. The pommel is a screw on style, but the tang it tapers to is large.

The sheath is heavy leather with a tidy basket weave design on it. The blade is bead blasted stainless steel. The grips feel like faux wood, but they have a wonderful feel to them.

This is a big mans knife and it can cut through brush and chop wood with ease, I wouldn't use it to split logs, but if I were stranded with it, I bet I could if I were careful.

It seems like it will be an excellent alternative to a hatchet for backpacking. I can't wait to go this summer and give it a go,

Just keep in mind you are buying a knife, not an axe, Treat it like a knife and it will go far.

I would strongly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a serious bowie. It's very well made, thick steel, comfortable handle, not bad to look at either. Most of all, I was impressed by the sheer size. This thing is HUGE!! It doesn't come with some cheap flimsy sheath that you'd be ashamed to carry such a fine piece in either, this sheath is also very well made. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

THIS knife is a complete ripoff. THE TANG GOES DOWN TO 1/4" RIGHT AFTER THE HILT. THE POMMEL IS SCREWED ON. THE TANG BECOMES A THREADED BOLT BASICALLY. I THINK SHRADE USE TO MAKE A GOOD PRODUCT, BUT NOW THEY MANUFACTURE ALL OF THEIR KNIVES IN CHINA. I HAVE A WINCHESTER BOWIE I BOUGHT FOR 20 DOLLARS AT WALMART. AND IT IS AN INFINITELY BETTER KNIFE. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID. CHUCKY

So, you are there just hanging with some friends, and you need something to make conversation about. Bring this bad boy out, and you'll definitely get a conversation going! Then of course people will want to know where you got it, because they will want one too. And by people, I mean your guy friends, and by that I mean the ones who have an appreciation for big knives and movies like Predator. You know, your buddies who have a little more testosterone than the others.

You want to know how bad ass this is? Remember in the movie when Billy (the Indian tracker) is standing on the log bridge waiting to battle the Predator mano-a-mano, and he pulls out that huge blade? Pretty bad ass, right? Well, this knife could help you to create your own bad ass moment when you are going into hand to hand combat with a 10 foot tall alien hunter that eats xenomorphs for breakfast.

Stick around, and get to the choppa! Now!
