Old Timer Guthook,

This review is from: Schrade Old Timer Guthook Knife 7.25" Skinner (Sports)
After getting this knife I found it's nothing like the Schrade Old Timer knives of the past. It is lighter weight and the steel is thinner. It's stamped china on the blade. My Schrade Old Timer I've had since 1986 was and is quality. I do and always have taken pride in products made in the USA. I quess Schrade made the move like so many others. Make it look good but make it cheap. Maybe some of the hunters that read this review may think I'm going over board here but then again would you buy a hunting rifle made in China?

I used Schrade Old Timer knives for years. Last Elk season I lost my Guthook. Seen this one and I bought it on Amazon. I was so unpleased after looking at it out of the box. It's not the high quality knive I had but a cheap replica made in China and has the Schrade name.

It feels sturdily built, but I was disappointed in the look and apparent material quality. I purchased as a gift, but after inspecting it I did not geel that it was gift quality so I tossed it in with the rest of my camping/hunting/utility gear. It came with a decently sharp edge (not true of other new knives I've purchased) and should perform its intended function, but it does not have the same quality look and feel of the Old Timers I remember.

I have used my Schrade Old Timer to field dress a number of Whitetail deer. It is the right size and holds an edge very well. My son had lost mine so I replaced it and have been very pleased with the price, shipping and overall quality of this blade.

My wife dressed a doe out with this very knife in the spring. Held a good edge and did its job. May not be made in the USA but the steel is good quality for the price. solid 4/5.

This was bought for a gift and I'm very happy with it. It was smaller than I expected but handles very nicely. Very good knife especially for the money!

I have been hunting for over 30 years using a knife of this type. I can guarantee that you will love this knife when it comes to trying to remove the guts from your deer. The guthook is so easy to use and if you have ever slipped and cut into the gut of a deer you understand how important it is to be careful when skinning one. This knife will help you not only skin your deer but it will keep you from cutting into the guts. Highly recommended!

I ordered this knife for a friend because I already have two exact knives from back in the early 80's. This new knife has the same quality as my older knives. The sheath is the same also as the older ones.

I lost this same knife over a year ago. I got tired of seeing the sad, empty sheath just lying there with all of my other happy hunting gear. So, I purchased this replacement and put it to work as soon as I got it, going through three hogs and a deer within 2 weeks. Man, it feels good to have it back...welcome home.
