5.0 out of 5 stars Schrade Pro Hunter Knife
Have been looking for a replacement knife for quite sometime and found this one. As it turns out, my father owned one just like this and it has beeen with him for all my years(35)of hunting. The price was right and now I share a piece of history with my dad.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Swap Meet" Quality Knife
With the purchase price, I didn't expect to get a super-high quality knife, but with the Schrade name, I expected something better than cheap, imported junk. This knife, however, is junk. It just screams CHEAP.

The imitation stag handle is cheap painted plastic that doesn't even attempt to look real. It's like a cartoon version of what stag should look...

It's like a cartoon version of what stag should look like. The steel is also obviously cheap Chinese steel. I think the original version of this knife several years ago was much higher quality.

Like I said in the title, these are the type of knives you see laying out at a swap meet or a truck stop. You can get a much higher quality knife like this for not much more money. You can get an American-made Buck fixed-blade hunting knife for about $10 more that's worlds ahead of this in quality.

This wasn't the screaming bargain I thought it was going to be.

I usually don't buy inexpensive knives, but I fell for the Schrade name because they used to make quality knives. This is a Chinese made piece of garbage that looks like something you would by for $5 at a shady carnival vendor's tent. The grip is made of hollow plastic and it is held together by a screw, not rivets and the fit and finish is extremely poor. There is not much of a tang extending into the grip as far as I can tell, so I can't imagine that it could take much abuse. The leather sheath is thin and cheaply made. The blade is heavy, but I can't speak for the quality of the steel or how well it holds an edge since I have thrown this in the back of the closet to put in the garage sale bin. Do yourself a favor and save up a few extra dollars and buy yourself a well made knife from someone like Boker or CRKT.

You get what you pay for. This was a fairly inexpensive knife, and the plastic handle's nothing to get excited about; but the blade is substantial and sharp. I wouldn't buy this for any knife collection, but it will do for utility/field work (hunting, fishing, on-the-fly cutting or trimming something, etc.) when a regular pocket knife wouldn't do. It comes with a decent leather sheath that can easily be threaded onto a belt.

This is a large Knife, with a very sturdy sheath, and it is "EXTREMELY SHARP" from factory, so be careful, I loke the look of the knife but i didn't like the way the handles were attched to it, the blade is perfect for skinning or anything else you might need in the woods, the butt of the knife was a little loose when I received it, other than that it is an all around good knife for someone beginning to get into the outdoors.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a big knife, May 26, 2007

This is a serious sheath knife. If you are working in the woods or want a heavy duty sheath knife for the outdoors, this will definitely fit the need. For those times you need to cut small (or not so small limbs) or split kindling, this knife has the heft to tackle the job. While I don't do much backpacking these days, there is an appeal to way this one feels just holding it. It comes with a fairly course sharpening stone included in a pouch on the sheath. I usually like to replace it with a medium or finer stone to keep the edge dressed well as needed.
