5.0 out of 5 stars Winter Joy
"My bird feeder!", I thought with glee. I rushed to open it and it was better than I had anticipated. The wood is smooth and beautiful, a true work of art. And the thistle seed goes everywhere. NOT recommended -- too expensive and really, there are much better feeders out there.

"My bird feeder!", I thought with glee. I rushed to open it and it was better than I had anticipated. The wood is smooth and beautiful, a true work of art. The panels are glass, not plastic, and the pincone hanging on the bottom of it to ward off chipmunks was the perfect look for my mountain home. I have hung it just outside my kitchen window and anticipate a long cold winter ahead, but the promise of a show from birds outside my window helps me face the snowy season with courage. The instruction booklet inside explains the habits of birds and how to care for them and I am beginning to think maybe this could be the beginning of a new hobby! Betty

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful feeder that finches will use., May 15, 2003
This review is from: Schrodt Designs SBNL Songbird Nigerseed Lantern Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this feeder to replace "socks" filled with thistle seed, which attracted many goldfinches but looked ugly. I was very pleased with the appearance of the feeder (and the fact that it recycles scraps of wood), but wondered whether the birds would accept it. They do! I plan to buy more.

I put this birdfeeder outside my kitchen window and I watch all the finches eat their breakfast in the morning while I'm eating mine. It is beautiful and well constructed. It's easy to put the birdseed in, and attracts dozens of beautiful birds. I definitely would recommend it to anyone.

Bought this for my wife. It's a nice Nigerseed feeder. After only 2-3 days we had many birds coming to share the seed. Other reviews note the quality construction - I can affirm that, it's well and simply made.
I'm glad I bought this feeder.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, simple feeder. A great joy ., June 17, 2005

I really love this feeder. It is beautiful to watch and blends into the pine tree in my court yard beautifully. It is simple to refill and clean. I've put millet seeds, safflower seeds and nyger seeds in it. The finches absolutely fight over this feeder. I've attracted so many birds even my neighbors (i live in an apartment area) noticed the activity around her apartment. The feeder is functional, simple, well-built and beautiful. I've truely enjoyed it. I did not have a squirrel problem but I would be weary about hanging this feeder directly on a tree where a squirrel would have access. Some squirrel precautions should probably be taken with this feeder. This size was perfect for my balcony but not so for the birds. They liked it so much that they ate over 2/3 of the tower each day. Luckily, refilling was easy and the spill tends to be minimal. I also really liked the little drain holes at the bottom of the feeder to allow rain water to drain out. My seeds were never wet for too long in the feeder to cause a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price, September 11, 2006

Seemed pricey at first but this feeder has been a source of amusement all summer. Small birds feed, play and sleep on it. Often jostling for position. Nice beveled top and routed base. Had a very wet few months but the feeder is holding up well. Squirrels don't even bother trying to get into it (but then they rarely get up the steel hanging plant stand our three feeders are on--lard or crisco mixed with cayenne pepper on the pole stops that after the first attempt)

This is our first bird feeder ever. It is beautiful, made of very nice wood, and without any major trumpeting attracts all the lovely feathered guests in our backyard and keeps the squirrels away. Could I ask for more?
