Gorgeous recording of wonderful Lieder!,
By
This review is from: Schubert: Poets of Sensibility, vols. 1 and 2 (Audio CD)
I saw this in Borders and grabbed it. I was not disappointed.
The singers are very good. Simone Nold, the beautiful young German soprano, has a lovely clean and clear voice and I hope she makes more recordings of this type. Baritone, Thomas Bauer, and the tenor, Marcus Ullmann, are both very good, too. Fortepianist, Ulrich Eisenlohr, accompanies the singer on a very attractive sounding fortepiano. I couldn't find any details of the instrument in the cover notes of the CD. If you enjoyed the recordings of Schubert's Lieder made by Christoph Prégardien accompanied by Andreas Staier on the fortepiano, then this very cheap and gorgeous Naxos recording. My only criticism is that there wasn't a copy of the lyrics to poems and an English translation in the CD notes. However, I am quite content to sit back and be seduced by Schubert's music and the singers and the fortepiano here.
