Mystery and Excitement,
By A Customer
This review is from: Schubert: Trios; Sonata; Notturno (Audio CD)
These two words sum up these magnificent performances. The interplay of the three instruments is beautifully done, the sound is magnificent. Nothing smells of routine , all is discove ry. Bravo for Stefan Winter, who is willing to take risks. This is the reward.

Wonderful recording. If you find the price tag a bit hard to swallow, you can get the two discs separately:
Franz Schubert: Trio in Es-Dur, Op. 100; Sonate in B-Dur Schubert: Trio, Op. 99 / Nocturne, Op. 148 Both discs are well worth your money, but if you want to try one first, I'd go for Schubert: Trio, Op. 99 / Nocturne, Op. 148.

This review is from: Schubert: Trios; Sonata; Notturno (Audio CD)
This is a 2-CD package, incorporating performances of Schubert's trios Opus 99 and Opus 100; both single CDs are still available, with only the color of the cover to distinguish them quickly. La Gaia Scienza is a rigorously "historically informed" ensemble, playing keyboard instruments and strings of precisely the sort Schubert might have played and heard. But authenticity is less important than their superb musicianship and their interpretative intensity. I've reviewed both of the separate CDs, if you're interested, as well as their stunning recording of the Piano Quartet and Piano Quintet of Johannes Brahms.
Look sharply at the prices for the single CDs in comparison to this double CD package!
