I got this for the same reason anyone would want a charger/maintainer... and that is to charge a battery and keep it there. I have a classic British sports car that I rarely drive, and until I started using this charger I would return to my car to a dead battery. This charger/maintainer comes with everything you need to quickly connect and disconnect this item, in 3 different ways: eye hole connectors to permanently attach the quick connector to your battery for very easy use, large alligator type clips for temporary use on a car that you want to just charge the battery on, and for super easy use there is a plug for use in the 12volt power outlet or cigar lighter. It has power sensing, so you cant over charge, and it will maintain the proper voltage for as long as it is connected. The wires are long enough from the charger itself to stretch across any car, and the power cable is about 8 feet long. Great little charger/maintainer. I would recommend this to anyone.

This unit worked fine for 15-months, but now the Green and Yellow light are always on. I contacted customer service many times but I can not get an explanation why the yellow light stays on. I have had it connected for nearly 30-hours to a new car 12-v battery. Even after driving around for some time to assure the battery was charged, it still stays lit on the yellow.

While I could say 15-months for a $27 item might be worth it (I would say not....), the lack of better customer support keeps me from really trusting this anymore.

This has a two-year warranty, so I'm sending it in. Granted, that may not be worth my time and postage, but I'll give them one more shot at my business.

ps: one of the contacts with customer service was leaving my phone number for them to call me back (that is an option after being on hold) ..... they never called me back.

Update: the day after I posted this review (June28), customer service did call me. I was given a Return Authorization Number and I shipped it back as it is covered under warrentee.

Charges quickly and I do like it's compact size.
With 3 riding mowers, 2 jet skis, 1 boat, and
5 cars, this charger is more than handy. Price
is more than reasonable as well........

I love this little guy! When I store my tractor over the winter, the battery loses it's charge to the point it won't turn over. The SC-300A can be plugged in all winter to maintain its charge safely.

The good: It comes with quick release cables that attach directly to your battery so that you have a solid connection to the charger. I wouldn't use the claws for seasonal storage as they could disconnect or short. Even during the cutting season, I plug it back into the charger/maintaner to keep the battery at full charge. They include a cigarette lighter attachment for folks who need to take it on the road. I never tried it so I can't comment on how good it is.

The not-so-good: None as far as I can tell. I think Schumacher makes a good product and it's a perfect size for a shelf near your tractor or other battery equipment. Don't expect to be charging full size batteries but I'm sure it would work in an emergency if you had nothing else around.

My rating: 5-Stars you can't go wrong and the price is great along with the peace of mind buying with Amazons return policy.

Product arrived on time and I started using it right away. I have a Ford Explorer that gets used very little and the battery goes dead after a month of setting which is normal with today's computer cars, and when I want to use it i need to jump it. I hooked up the new charger/maintainer and it brought it up to full charge in 14 hours (overnight). So far it continues to monitor the battery and charge as needed and return to float mode. i can't say how long it will last but it is working good now. Please note that this is only a 3 amp charger and a dead battery will take some time to recharge which is better for the battery in the long run. If you want something faster buy a charger with more amp capacity ie. 8, 10, 20 amp charger. Also this charger has open vents for cooling and should not be exposed to moisture. I set mine on the dash and plugged it into the power outlet so I could monitor it through the windshield. It comes with all of the necessary cords for different ways of connecting it. I used the power outlet adapter for mine. If this lasts, I will buy another for my old jeep which doesn't get used much. I know I could disconnect the neg. battery lead but this is not good for the connectors or the posts. I might also suggest that you unplug the charger before starting the vehicle just to be on the safe side so as to `separate the alternator from the charger. Harold

I had a Deltran Battery Tender for my motorcycle for a long time, so when it failed with absolutely no reason after 3 years of light duty, I figured that Deltran should allow for out of warranty repairs on their products that are designed to be non-servicable by the end user. I sent a repair request e-mail to Deltran and received a rude and obnoxious response from their customer service rep that I should just buy another unit. When I told them that this is no way to earn repeat business, I was told to go to another company and see if they can beat their warranty. So I did.

The Schumacher works just like it should and seems to do what I need it to do now for the last 60 days without a hiccup or concern. I hope that if I have to contact their customer service for anything, that I'm given better options as opposed to the middle finger I got from Deltran. Deltran=FAIL IMHO.
