This review is from: Schumann: Quartet, Op.47 / Draeseke: Quintet, Op.48 (Audio CD)
Felix Draeseke's music is a great find for those sick of hearing the same Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, etc over & over. While writing at the peak of the Romantic era, Draeseke, while obviously influenced by his contemporaries, nevertheless speaks with an individual voice. This Piano Quintet is one of his best pieces (along with the 1st Symphony, the first two movments of the Tragic Symphony & the Piano Concerto). Melodic, dramatic & exciting it stands head & shoulders above the paler and very often tedious chamber music of the era. Don't let this hard to find cd slip away.
