Book Description

August 2000 Milner Craft Series
Schwalm embroidery is a form of late-18th to 19th century whitework embroidery which incorporates surface stitches, pulled fabric, drawn thread, needle lace and needleweaving. It was traditionally embroidered on blouses, shirts, stockings, pillowcases, top sheets and towels. Traditional elements are based on the "tree of life". These include hearts, tulips, the sun, pine cones, flowers, fruits, leaves, tendrils and the pigeon or dove. This book contains a number of projects accompanied by step-by-step drawings that should help to clarify the instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars beautiful!, November 20, 2001

This review is from: Schwalm Embroidery: Techniques and Designs (Milner Craft Series) (Paperback)
This is a beautiful and clearly presented book on the technique of Schwalm Embroidery. The instructions and diagrams are easy to follow and there are patterns to suit the beginner or advanced embroiderer. I have made two items from this book with lovely results. The Schwalm technique requires simple materials such as linen and DMC thread.
