5.0 out of 5 stars Good value
This computer is about half the price of equivalent devices, but it works very well. It's display is very clear even in bright sunlight. It's functions appear to be identical to Schwinn's wired units. Although it costs twice as much as wired units ($9 more) the wireless mode eliminates messy wires as well as unreliable electrical contacts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time and Money.
I purchased two of these computers, one for me, and one to give as a gift. Both units malfunction in several ways. Save your money and time and do not purchase this product. This unit is worthless if you ride at night due to interference from your bike light. If you put your light on flashing it will make the computer indicate 70 mph, if you use the light on steady beam...

I purchased two of these computers, one for me, and one to give as a gift. Both units malfunction in several ways. Save your money and time and do not purchase this product. This unit is worthless if you ride at night due to interference from your bike light. If you put your light on flashing it will make the computer indicate 70 mph, if you use the light on steady beam it will indicate a much slower speed. Both I and the person I gave the other computer to have tried in vain to mount the computers and lights in different configurations as to not have interference and we are both mechanics. We have since discovered that anything electronic will interfere with the function of the computer, such things as stop light signals, laptops, and radios. I would go into the other shortcomings of this bike computer but I have already wasted enough time on this unit. Stay away from it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, November 9, 2009

Love the Bike Computer...great price.
Only draw back was the receiver cover did not easily come of (could have been a defect) Had to pry it off- not easy twist off to insert the battery.

Great tool- works perfectly.

Update: 1.5 years later...I now need to buy a new one...the reset buttons are not working. Most functions were very accurate except the max average speed. Most often said I was going 87 mph. yeah - I don't think that was happening....

I ordered this thinking that with that name brand it should be pretty good. Boy was I wrong. Right out of the box the display didn't work. It kept fading in and out, so I figured it was batteries and mounted it anyway. You need to have the transmitter no more than 1mm away, 1mm. come on, thats almost impossible without them hitting each other as the wheel spins, and on a mountain bike with the front forks you have on them, well you have to make some kind of spacer to move it closer to the wheel. Did all of that, bought new batteries, installed them , and no change. The display kept fading in and out, and after 1 , 6 mile ride it shut off and never came back on. It now sits on my counter top while I decide if I want to pay shipping to send it back, or just throw it the hell in the trash. In my opinion, dont waste your money. They say you get what you pay for, I could imagine what the $7.00 ones would have been like. If your are really bent on getting something like this, go to a bike shop where you can talk to the sales person and see what you are buying and what their return policy is

5.0 out of 5 stars Many features at a bargain price!, January 24, 2010

I have had the Schwinn Wireless bike computer for a month and am very pleased with it. The installation and calibration instructions and execution were reasonably straight-forward. The computer itself has the usual features, including time, total miles, trip miles, trip time, maximum speed and average speed, with a large readout for miles/km/hr. It also has an unusual feature: it can be set to "scan" whereby elapsed time, trip distance, average speed and maximum speed rotate automatically in 3-4 second intervals. This means you don't have to touch the computer on most rides to get up-to-date info on these four key functions, which to me is both a convenience and a safety benefit. In Tucson at least, there seems to be no interference from traffic signals, a problem I have had with some computers in the past.

Very easy to install on my bicycle but found out it did not work properly. A malfunctioning right button on the computer kept me from obtaining all functions. I replaced it the Cateye CC-RD300W Strada wireless bicycle computer which functions correctly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, simple bike computer at a great price, May 4, 2010

PROS:
-Reasonably priced
-Wireless
-Nice, easy to read display

CONS:
-Some interference, but not a huge deal
-Transmitter made poor battery contact, might be just the one I received
-Magnet casing made of plastic, a bit flimsy, and sticks out a lot

Conclusion: Great for the price, but expect to spend a little time making proper adjustments so that it works with your bike setup.

I bought this bike computer to replace a very old, even simpler bike computer that I had made by another company. The larger display makes reading the numbers much easier. One small difference I noticed between my previous wired one and this wireless one is that it takes a little longer for the display to show a change in speed (e.g. I will be climbing a hill and it will read something like 9.7mph and as I start going much, much faster down the hill, it will take a few seconds before it reads 21.3mph.

Like other users, I have received a transient interference that causes my bike computer to register a speed of about 74mph. It really doesn't make much of a difference except for the fact that my "max speed" is not accurate. The fact that this is wireless (and reasonably cheap) means that you have to accept some interference.

One of two problems that I have been having is the transmitter - for some reason it doesn't always make proper contact with the battery, meaning that whenever I go out for a ride, sometimes no signal will be transmitted. So my mileage isn't always accurate and I would have to stop mid-ride to adjust the battery. And yes, I checked the battery. It is fully charged. The problem seems to be in the housing. It isn't a big deal enough to return it but more of a nuisance. The second problem is the magnet - it says it will fit round or flat spokes, but if you attach it to just one it can be a bit flimsy and looks as if a bump would send it flying. I tried attaching it to two spokes, which worked, but the plastic looked flimsy and was already bending. The magnet also stuck out a lot, causing it to scrape the transmitter every time it passed by. I could have avoided this by moving the magnet up, but then I could not attach it to two spokes. I ended up using my old magnet, which has a metal casing and a lower profile, preventing it from scraping the transmitter.

This item works exactly as described. Makes riding much more interesting by knowing how fast, how far, and how long you have been riding. Would definately buy again!
