3.0 out of 5 stars Good BIke... but not great
I bought this bike about a month ago. The look and style is great. However, the seat is very uncomfortable, I had to get it replaced. Even worse, I have rode it a couple of times already, and the Front Derailleur is already damaged. I need to have this bike tuned up at the local bike shop which will set me back an additional $50.00. While I do expect for Schwinn to...

I was looking for an inexpensive second bike to keep at a house at the Jersey Shore. The price, the aluminum frame, Shwinn brand plus the free shipping definitely wooed me. However, the scant Amazon product description left a lot to be desired thus prompted a lot of internet research. There were no product reviews.
Alas, not much else was revealed about the bike's components or other details, including any Shwinn related web site.
I took a chance and ordered it since this bike would only be for ocasional use.
When it arrived, I was overwhelmed with the quality and fit and finish. Nearly all the parts are also made of aluminum: handle bars/stem, seat post, brake levers/calipers, kick stand, rims. Generally the OEM supplied seat is terrible. While not a "high end" gel set, it is in fact one and is definitely satisfactory. The deraileur system is Shimano and again not high end but it works well. The factory alignment was spot on and did not require any additional adjustments. Shifting is done via twist grips. I am not a fan of these but they work.
Assembly was a tooless snap. Only the front wheel, handle bars and seat need be attached via the integral cam over latches.
I spent a lot of time researching bicycles before deciding on this one. I cetainly recommend this bike for anyone looking for a first bike, or like me, just something nice to get around on. The value cannot be beat. All of this for under $200 delivered!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my commute, November 24, 2008

Bought this bike two months ago for a short (two and half mile with some stiff uphills), commute to work.
So far it's been a real workhorse, and of course I've fitted a lot of new stuff to it, (fenders, lights, back rack etc). My only issue so far has been a "stiff link" which was soon fixed by the local bike shop for the princely sum $5, other than that it hasn't put a foot wrong.
It has been able to handle my 6'2" 245lb frame no problems, (actually started out at 263lbs, but that's just a nice side effect of the ride), and there is still some room for upward adjustment of the seat post and handlebars.
The suspension, (which I had until now regarded as a gimmick), has enough give to level out most bumps in the road, as does the suspension on the seat post. But neither feels too loose with just the right amount of rigidity for control. The stock seat isn't the most comfortable in the world, (didn't expect it to be), but is easily replaced.
As with any bike some assembly is required, but this should take someone with even the most basic mechanical aptitude and tool kit only about 30 minutes to an hour. (Have a good set of Allen wrenches available).
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase, and would recommend this bike wholeheartedly to a commuter or casual road rider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Schwinn quality, November 10, 2008
This bike is lightweight, strong, has great gear control for the price. The seat wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. However with a new seat all is well. Schwinn quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good BIke... but not great, April 10, 2009

This review is from: Schwinn Coronado Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
While I do expect for Schwinn to make good on the warranty, and send me a replacement part, it is a hassle to have to register, and wait for it. Unfortunately, I may need to come out of pocket even more if I want the part replaced sooner. Overall, this bike is okay, but I will recommend to do serious research before deciding on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Schwinn Coronado, August 2, 2009

Fast Delivery, the bike arrived as described, While the weight was clearly described in the description, it was a little heavier than I expected. But it seems to be a good quality bike which definitely serves my purpose..

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality for this price, July 6, 2009
This is my first bike for many years. Still it was very easy to assemble it and make all adjustments. Majority of components are pre-assembled by Schwinn - rear wheel, front and rear brakes, chain and gears. Its even not necessary to make fine tuning at bike shop. Only suspension needs greasing. This bike is good on the road and goes perfectly uphill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good short-distance commuter bike, October 3, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've purchased this bike for almost three months and ride it everyday to school (about 5 miles round trip with a deep uphill on each way). It's a good bike with decent build and nice look. Occasionally I hear compliments of this bike on the street. And in the past three months it had no problems except one flat. As a short-distance commuter it does a good job.

But this bike has the following weaknesses:

* It came half-assembled. This is not a problem for me because I assemble furniture and computers at home all by myself. But you have to buy tools to do the job (I bought an allen wrench set and a 10-inch adjustable wrench for $15 and these are all I need to assemble the bike). And you have to be careful on each screw because Amazon may have installed some screws but left them loose. If you are not experienced in assembling bikes you'd better take it to a local bike shop for setup. Count these extra expenses in your budget.

* I'm 5'7" and the seat is a bit too high for me even if I lower it to the minimum. I had to take out the plastic stick in the seat post and cut short about 2 inches so that the seat can be further lowered to fit me.

* It's too heavy at about $38 pounds. This makes it impossible to ride as fast as those road racers. Again, this is not a problem for me because I'm not a racer anyway and the weight gives me good exercise even in the short-distance commute. Instead, I have another problem: I live in an apartment in upper Manhattan NYC on the 5th floor with no elevator. Carrying this bike to the 5th floor in the narrow staircase everyday is really a pain.

* The brake is not really responsive. So you can't go down a deep hill to enjoy high speed.

I'd say I'm generally satisfied with the purchase ($240 including shipping) although I later realized I might have paid $20-30 more than its actual value. I recently bought a Marin Belvedere road bike for $300 incl. shipping from another online store for my wife which has higher-quality parts and includes aluminum fenders and LED light at 10 pounds lighter. If I have another chance to choose my bike I'd buy myself a Marin Belvedere unless the Shwinn Coronado is priced at $210 or lower including shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfort is correct, November 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Schwinn Coronado is classified as a comfort bike and it really is. I am 51 years old and have not ridden a bike since i got my drivers license at 16. I had heart surgery last year an my blood pressure was rising so I thought this would be a way to get some exercise. I was concerned about riding because i also have Arthritus in my neck and spine. This bike was a piece of cake to ride and made going up and down hills a breeze. The ride is good and the tires are just wide enough to give you a stable ride over rough road. It is just what the Dr. ordered!

5.0 out of 5 stars Schwinn Coronado Men's Comfort Bike, July 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very good product. Everything is as described, no surprises. The only thing I didn't like was when I had to adjust the brake pads and the screws tore the moment I applied a little bit of force with my allen key. It wasn't a big deal I was able to unscrew them from the back and get new screws before putting them back. The bad thing is that two out of two brake pads that I tried adjusting had the same problem. Other than that, frame, gears, suspension and even brakes work like a charm.

2.0 out of 5 stars Assembly instructions not clear, October 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Schwinn Coronado Men's Comfort Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
When I bought this bike, I was concerned about the assembly, but I liked the reviews about the bike, so I went to Dick's Sporting Goods to purchase one. Could not get anyone to wait on me there. Noticed that the price was the same as the Amazon.com price. The reviews did not say anything about assembly problems so I decided to purchase it online despite warnings from friends and family not to do so.
Bike comes in a nice package/box, the instructions for unpacking are INSIDE the the box. There is no list of what should be in the package, but yet it tells you to make sure everything is there.
It comes in several parts, frame, handlebars, and front wheel. The rear wheel is on the frame but derailed. The assembly requires you to install the handlebars and to rail the chain to the sprocket and then do some testing and adjusting. This is in the manual which is 26 pages long and is for a mountain bike, not the Coronado comfort bike. The first instruction says to take a 6mm Allen wrench (which I have) and loosen the Allen bolt, which I cannot find because the manual does not tell me where it is nor does the picture point it out. I cannot find a bolt that fits the 6mm Allen wrench anywhere on the handlebars. The mountain bike in the manual looks nothing like my bike,
I go to the pacific-cycle web site, it tells me to go to the Schwinn web site. The Coronado is not listed there as one of their products. No PDF manual.
I do not know what a shop will charge me to have it assembled, but it seems ridiculous to pay extra to have it assembled when I could have gotten it already assembled at Dick's for the same price had someone been there to wait on me. <sigh>
My advise is do not purchase this bike online. I do not understand the 'easy' assembly review from those who said so.
