Missed by that much.,

I purchased this bike to be my commuter. You would think that Schwinn could make a descent commuter for $300. Well, they can't. First the good: This bike is light the frame is aluminum and very stiff, the paint job on this bike is superb, and assembly is a snap. It is without a doubt the nicest looking green bike I have seen. Now the bad: the crank and headset were cracking on the very first ride. A generous tightening probably would have done the trick but there are so many plastic parts on the bike that would dare tighten anything. The crank is partially plastic and so is the headset. The handlebars we also quite flimsy. Lastly, it only comes in one size large. This bike has the potential to be a great bike with the right headset, crank, pedals, and saddle. But if you have to make that many upgrades it defeats the purpose of buying a bike at $300. Schwinn you can do better. You would think that after all these years making bikes they would know how to make a bike right. I sent it back after one ride.

This is a decent bike with decent components. If you want a top of the line bike this isn't it...If you want a solid bike for under $300 this is it. I am really happy with the purchase. I was a little skeptical when I started doing some research on the bike and couldn't find much in the way of details. Decided to purchase it anyway and crossed my fingers...I think it all worked out great.
The one negative comment I have is with the rim tape. It is way too flimsy...your tubes will push through the holes in the rims and eventually pop. It took me 3 tube replacements until I put the pieces together...I am a slow learner. Replaced the original rim tape with Velox Rim Tape @ $3.50 a rim and it solved the problem. No more flats.

It seems like a pretty nice bike. Assembly was pretty straight forward. Removing the chain guard was necessary because it makes too much noise. I had to adjust the front brakes which was no big deal. When putting the seat on I had to loosen the red reflector so I could put the bike seat to the lowest position. Overall it was pretty smooth when riding and I like it. When I use it more I will probably write a better review.

Rides like a dream,

This is my first road bike. Once it was all put together, it was a very smooth ride. My only suggestion is to have someone who knows a lot about bikes put it together for you. Together we found that a lot of the parts were incorrectly put together ie too tight or too loose but as expected with a factory bike. Eventually had to take it to a bike shop to have the cones loosened. Like everyone else's review, the brakes aren't top notch, but they serve their purpose.
Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Solid Single Speed,

This is the first bike I've purchased on my own (not a hammy-down or a cheap gift). It is a wonderful ride, decently light and sturdy. I replaced the seat so I don;t know whether the stock is comfortable or not. One minor problem I have been having is the brakes are set in an awkward position. If they are flush with the handlebars, it is often difficult to get them tight enough without them hitting the grips. It took me an hour plus to sort it out and it's always something I ask the mechanic to take a look at whenever I bring it in for servicing. Speaking of servicing, I've probably had to spend $275+ in service in the 4 or so months I have owned this bike. I just bought new wheel frames because I broke a bearing and it stripped the cone. I ride 15 miles a day Mon-Fri and another 10 or so Sat or Sun. I didn't expect to be replacing a wheel this soon but I like the aesthetic of this bike so I coped out.

I bought this bike for my wife and find myself riding without her knowing, a lot! I own a 24 speed road-bike myself but love cruising this one around town. It's pretty easy to assemble and even easier to ride. It's relatively light for the price and easy to load on light-rail in downtown Portland. It has some pretty good get up and go.

I bought this bike for $196 with $6 for shipping. For the price, its hard to fine a better bike.
Pros: - For price, light bike with approx 20lbs - Simple single speed that is solid and works well - Solid bike and no rattles when riding on pavement - Great dark green color - Gears good ratio for moderate hills and flats. I do need to get off saddle to ride steeper hills and can keep up with moderate city traffic on flats without sweating it out. I live in DC and only few hills are much on the needs for this bike. - Seats are surprisingly comfortable when riding less than 2 hrs. Cons: - Drop handle bar odd shaped and not too comfortable. Its not wide as normal drop bars on most bikes. I ended up flipping the bar and cutting portion of it to make it a bullhorn style handle bar. - Its fly wheel and cannot make it into fixie Overall I really enjoy riding this bike. I had it for few weeks but quality is good enough to feel safe riding in city and should last years without much work.

Warning: Poor Rim Tapes,

This is a very solid bike for the price but, as another reviewer mentioned, the rim tapes are absolutely horrible. Within two weeks the rim tape on the front and rear had herniated through causing numerous flats. Every portion of the tape over every spoke hole was about 1psi from failure if it hadn't already herniated. The tapes looked like strips of paper candy with the rubber bubbling up at every hole. I have to admit that I didn't even bother to inspect the tape after the first two flats because I have never had a rim tape fail so completely and so quickly. I contacted Schwinn about this and they sent me some new tubes and some new tires (I don't know why tires after I explained about the tubes and tapes but I'll take 'em). Get some Velox tape or some medical tape and you should be good on this bike.
