5.0 out of 5 stars It may be pink, but this is a tough bike.
I chose this bike because it's made by a real bike company, Schwinn. There are lots of "pink and girly" bikes out there (in toy stores, etc.) that are made by no-name companies, or bikes branded with licensed characters (Disney, Barbie, etc.) But if you look at them closely you'll see the quality is just subpar. I am an avid biker and I build/repair my own bikes so I can tell the difference. This bike has coaster brakes and dual hand brakes (for both the front and back wheels) while most other kids bikes have only coaster brakes or maybe just a front hand brake. The hand brake levers are made of sturdy metal while most other kids bikes have plastic hand brake levers. The training wheels are mounted on strong heavy-duty steel supports and there is a special locking bracket to make sure the training wheels don't slip/twist out of position. Most other kids bikes have very cheaply made training wheels (thin weak stamped steel) and no locking safety bracket. Also, the frame design with the curved top tube lowers the stand-over height of the bike. This is great for young children learning to ride because they can comfortably straddle the bike with both their feet firmly on the ground. The bike feels a bit heavy but you know that it will last. I had another 16" Schwinn boys bike for my son a few years ago that really stood up to abuse. He has outgrown it, but it's still in great shape so we handed it down to a cousin to enjoy.

This bike was purchased for my four year old daughter. She was thrilled with the colors. The bike is a strudy build and a nice design. I imagine she will outgrow it before we have any issues from wear and tear. The packing for shipping did not hold up particularly well and the bike suffered some superficial scratches and a busted reflector as a result. I discovered this two days before giving the bike to her and replaced the damaged part from a local bike store. As several reviewers noted, the instructions that came with the bike were generic and borderline worthless. Nonetheless, I figured it out (which is saying a lot since I am personally worthless when it comes to putting together kids toys). I am not unhappy with the purchase and my daughter loves the bike, but even for someone who buys everything online, I will probably buy my next bike at the local bike or a Toys R Us store to avoid the issues with shipping and assembly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 1st Bike for 4yrs old and up!, April 4, 2007
By
We purchased this bike for our 4yr old daughter. We chose a Schwinn because of its reputation and quality and we were not disappointed. The bike is extremly well built and sturdy (3" wheels) and will last for many years to come. Our daughter loves the coloring, tassels and the zippered pouch to hold all of her knick-knacks. The only thing that I did not pick-up on when ordering the bike is that it does not come with "BMX" tires... only smooth ones. So heads up if you live in the country like we do. However, with 3" tires, this bike can go just about anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, March 8, 2007

I purchased this bike as a first big girl bike for my daughter's 4th birthday, graduating from the tricycle. She loved the color, and even the streamer handlebars, which were an extra pleasant surprise for her. Stability is excellent; she successfully rode almost instantly. Yes, you can save $[...] (or more) and purchase a less expensive bike, even with the Schwinn name, as I did for my older son, but the quality construction comparison is night and day. The other bike is only two years old and has had reflectors brake off, connected by plastic instead of metal. When he's ready for a bigger bike, I'll definitely spend the extra money.

3.0 out of 5 stars girls bike training wheels, August 25, 2007
The bicycle was delivered very quickly after ordering it. It's a sweet-looking bicycle and my 5 year old loved the look of it. It does look absolutely perfect for a little girl. It seemed to weigh a ton so she had trouble pedalling. She's a strong, sporty girl but so even an adult or bigger child had to push her a lot of the time. The bicycle itself was too heavy to pedal for a long time. We were on flat ground not a hilly area.

We purchased this bike for our four year old granddaughter. We received prompt delivery, the bike was easy to assemble, and it is a joy being with her when she rides on her big girls bike!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bike, VERY POOR SHIPPING!, November 21, 2007
I just received this bike today from UPS. It came very quickly, but I think that they set it on the top of a hill, and let it just roll down to my house. The box was completely falling apart, holes everywhere, and the bike sticking out. Very disappointing. I got the box unpacked, and the bike seems to be fine, a few small scratches and imperfections, dirt on the bike, but not worth sending back. I am a person who reaches to the back of the shelf in a store, for the newest, most perfect box. This is very hard for me to deal with. I will think twice before ordering another big item from Amazon, all other shipments from them have been flawless. As for the Schwinn name, the bike is heavy duty, and great for kids that are 4 or older. My daughter had the equivilant bike in a twelve inch as her first bike, and it stood up to MAJOR use and a little abuse. Hopefully this bike follows in the same tracks, it looks as though it will give her a few good years.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very bad packaging, May 6, 2010

This review is from: Schwinn Jasmine Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
Bike came with very bad packaging. The front while does not fit into the front fork. There are no assembly instructions and the product booklet is not specific to this bike. The accessories are very cheap. It is just a very heavy, bulky bike with very bad packaging.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please heed the warnings in the 1 star reviews!, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Schwinn Jasmine Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I normally take the negative reviews into consideration but always look at how many 5 star vs 1 star reviews there are to make a descion on a product, but this is truly a 1 star product!

1. It arrived broken, missing pieces and scratched as if it were a used bike. The seat had a crack in the vinyl and the front wheel was bent terribly. It was missing a bracket for one of the training wheels and that was because of the horrible packaging! It arrived with a gaping hole in the side and corner with half of the handle bar sticking out.

2. We managed to get the bike together and noticed that the handle bars would not tighten down all the way and if an adult pushed forward on them, they would fall forward a bit. We tightened them the absolute tightest we could and our daughter could not budge them, so we figured it was ok. Well, she just came in with torn pants and shirt sporting the first battle scars of summer because the bars completely fell forward to the wheel!

3. I am so shocked that Schwinn would offer such a piece of junk and we will never buy from Schwinn again. Now, to the benifit to the Schwinn name, I do understand that they were bought out in the last few years and the new company has consistantly produced a poor product, but this bike should be recalled! Hopefully I can get Amazon to take it back without the original box. If not, it is going to the dump, it's that bad!

Goodbye $90!
