This is the one your mama warned you about. The Schwinn Sting-Ray Electric. Choose your mode of power: pedal, electric or both together for crazy speed. Electric power will get you up to 14 mph. Leave your buddies in the dust. They'll catch up. Maybe. The removable, rechargeable battery system looks like a V-Twin engine and can be charged on or off the bike. Looks sweet, too.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Schwinn S2938 250 watt Electric Stingray Bike (Misc.)
We just bought this Schwinn electric bicycle for our son's 9th birthday (March 28, 2008) and first of all I have to say that VM Innovations is an excellent seller, shipping was lightning fast and the bicycle came very well packaged in perfect mint condition. (Thank you so much VM Innovations!!!) We put the bicycle together (minimal effort as most of it is already mostly put together already) and charged it up overnight and our son was off and riding for his birthday!!! He LOVES this thing!!! Even my husband is riding it too!!! (you would have thought it was my husbands birthday!!!) This bicycle is awesome!!! It can go pretty fast so we make our son wear a helmet just to be safe, the charge lasts a few hours so there is plenty of time to enjoy riding it outside!!! You can either peddle or use battery power or both at the same time!!! (there is an off/on switch to save battery power if you wish) Also, the handle lights up when it is in battery mode!!! This bicycle is so cool looking too, even better than in the pictures, pictures do no justice, this bike is the coolest thing ever!!! (lots of shiny chrome!) If you are thinking of purchasing this, go right ahead, VM Innovations is excellent to buy from and shipping was super fast (received it in just 4 days after ordering!!!) I ordered standard shipping and this was shipped to us via Fed-X!!! (YAY!!!) VM Innovations even sent us an email with a tracking number!!! Oh, this bicycle also comes with a warranty and booklets and perfect instructions on how to charge it and keep it maintained, Schwinn is a well known name brand and this bicycle attests to their high quality standards! We could not be more pleased and my son is one happy little boy!!! Sandra, North Carolina

5.0 out of 5 stars Great green transoration at a reasonable price!, January 27, 2008

The electric bicycle is a great alternative to gasoline driven vehicles. An overnight charge gives you a speed of 20 mph and a distance of 20 miles and the cost is about 25 cents of electricity. If you just use it for neighborhood errands, like a run to the store for bread and milk, it could save as much as $6,000.00 a year. If you live close to your work and use the electric bike to commute to work, calculate the savings in gasoline, insurance, and wear on your car, the savings are in the thousands over a year. Another benefit is that you get to be outside and avoid traffic, meet other bike commuters and spend an hour or so geting in touch with nature. It is a win win situation, the environment benefits and you could improve your health.Schwinn 20" Stingray 250-watt Electric Bike S2938

I bought this bike to commute to work. I ride 10 miles to work, then charge it at work (just to be on the safe side). It is hard to pedal without any electric power, so don't get caught without it. It is very sturdy and I have no doubt it could hold 300 pounds, although I doubt it recommends it (I don't have the manual with me at this moment). Considering traffic jams in the morning and evening, it only adds 10 minutes to my normally 30 minute commute. I usually use the electric as more of a boost, so that my legs do some of the work. I've ridden it on scenic bike trails for over 2 hours without seeing any loss of power or a single bar lost off the power meter. Truly, this is a great bike. I want to alter mine to have more gears, because on a hill it has a max speed of 25mph (I put a speedometer). On the hill the power wont push it faster and I can't pedal fast enough to get more speed. So another gear would allow me to take advantage of the hills. Usually, it goes 14-15mph max (17-18 with pedal power). Up a hill it is slower, but boy is it nice to have that power to push me up. Last thing I need are some saddle bags or a cargo hauler. Then I can use it for grocery shopping. Although, I only feel safe using a heavy chain and pad lock to lock it up.
