4.0 out of 5 stars Schwinn 24 in Boy's Mnt Bike
Beautiful bike! My son loved it. I would have given it 5 stars except we had to replace all the tire valve stems before we could properly inflate the tires and the handle bar stem is really not height adjustable, but for now the height is fine. I guess when my son grows we'll have to buy a larger bike. A good quality 24 inch boys bike at a decent price is very hard to...

3.0 out of 5 stars manufacture mistake
Before ordering this bike I called the manufacture to see if it came with a quick release on both wheels. They assured me it did. However, the bike I got only has quick release on the front wheel. I called back the manufacture, and they informed me that their "bill of materials" was wrong - there is only one quick release. After complaining, they said they would send me a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Boys Bike, December 15, 2007
This is a very sharp looking well made bicycle for the money. It goes together fairly easily -- all you need is a screwdriver, Allen head and open end wrenches along with a tire pump. I spent just over an hour uncrating it and putting it together. (The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the handle bar height is not adjustable.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike, February 8, 2010

Santa brought this bike to our nine-year-old boy and it's been a charm. It's his first gear bike, and the smooth-changing gears are worth the extra money. It's the lightest bike he's owned, even though it's the largest. He can lift it himself when we need to put it in a truck for a longer trip. He only rides on paved and dirt roads (no jumps or rough riding), so we can't say how it handles in tougher conditions. We've been very pleased with it. We did a lot of research first, and this was one of the best deals we found: so much lighter, sturdier, safer, and better made than any bikes we found at the stuff-mart stores, but a lot less expensive than the bikes we found at the reliable bike shops. I can't imagine spending $500-1,000 on a child's bike. This fits our needs: easy to ride, decent components, smooth gear changes, reasonable weight, good fit now but enough growing room to last several years, good brand. Candy-apple red might have been more fun than the rather mature green, but he loves it.

3.0 out of 5 stars manufacture mistake, August 18, 2010

Before ordering this bike I called the manufacture to see if it came with a quick release on both wheels. They assured me it did. However, the bike I got only has quick release on the front wheel. I called back the manufacture, and they informed me that their "bill of materials" was wrong - there is only one quick release. After complaining, they said they would send me a new set of wheels (both quick release). What they sent me only had a quick release on the rear wheel. This is quite frustrating. The original wheels are silver while the replacement set is black. Using the quick release wheel from each set, the bike has now one silver and one black wheel.

Otherwise, the bike appears to be a decent build for the price and is fine for my son's purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars great bike, June 2, 2010

This review is from: Schwinn Solution FS AL Boy's Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
got this bike for my 9-year-old. He's a bit big for 20" but a bit small for typical 24". This bike has a lower top bar, so the seat goes really low, so he can safely ride it, yet still grow into it. This was probably my main criteria, closely followed by decent quality.

(My other son has a $100 NEXT from Walmart, and it is worth every penny we spent: its a dangerous POS.)

Going up a level from the $100 bikes to the $200+ is well worth it.I'm pretty good with bikes, and it was not trivial to put together, as it lacked clear instructions. For example, I had to unhook the front brake (pop the cable out) to get all the cables in the right place. Also there was a little rubber cap hiding the steering column nut. In all probably took about 1.5 hours to put together at a leisurely pace. You will need allen wrenches; I recall using both English and metric to get tight fit on the different nuts (WTF???), but I may be misremembering.

The bike met all my expectations: good brakes, low bar and seat, and good shifters. I had son #1 ride it today and he loved it. I guess I am on the hook for another. I wish they came in two colors!

Pros:
good quality for the price
free shipping!

Cons:
not trivial to assemble, basic tools and bike knowledge required

I purchased this for my son who is 8. He loves it. It is a good size for him to start and should be able to enjoy until his is about 13 or so.
He loves the speed settings on the handles and the brakes ease of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bike for me, June 27, 2007
A Kid's Review
I was looking for a new bike under these rules: must have gears, must be red,and in 24 inch size. I was running out of hope when I saw this bike. Right away I new it was the bike for me. When the bike came and after we put it together, I rode it and right away I gave it five stars.

The gears were easy to shift, the bike is easy to put together, and there is alot of space to grow into. This definitely was the bike for me!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Bike & Components campared to Bike shops, August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pros
- fairly lightweight bike for the money
- bike comes mostly assembled
- good thumb and finger gear shifters
- not too difficult to assemble if you know bikes
- bike is better than $300 bikes at bicycle shops that had handle bar twist shifter
- 8 year old son likes it a lot and gives him a better taste for what a real mt bike will be like
- bike was packaged well in a heavy bike box and shipped quickly
- 24 inch wheels and nice size frame with adjustable seat to handle growth--should last my son a 2-3 years

Cons
- no holes in the frame for water bottle holder
- you have to know bikes a bit to put it together (directions are not that great)
- had to adjust brakes and gears a bit to get it running smoothly
- headset is not adjustable and headset is kind of cheap with a single bolt

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice kids bike, November 15, 2009

This review is from: Schwinn Solution FS AL Boy's Mountain Bike (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I think overall this is a pretty good bike. I had looked all over sporting good stores, bike shops and big box stores and I couldn't find anything with comparable specs for less than 299.00 in stores. It's pretty lightweight and it has a nice simple clean dark green and gray design. It is made of 7005 aluminum not 6061 as it says in the description(I don't know what the difference is.)Also this is a 7 speed bike also different from the Amazon description which says 21 speed. I think the description for the girls version of this bike is more accurate. I don't know how easy the assembly is because I had it put together at a bike shop which still ended up being less than bike shop brand comparable bikes(it was 189.99 when I purchased it). This is my son's first non training wheel bike because he was too tall for the 20 inch bikes and most of the big box store 24 inch mountain bikes were for girls or the frame was to big and he couldn't stand over it easily even with the seat all the way down. That was not a problem with this bike. It is a nice size to start on for a tall younger elementary school child and there is room to grow with it for a while with the easy adjustable seat. I even rode on it and it rides easily and the gears are easy to shift. Some of the other bikes we looked at had the handlebar twist shifters and some were even hard for me to turn so he likes that you just have to push the little lever instead. I would recommend this bike. You could spend more for a similar bike shop bike but If I was going to splurge on a bike for him I would wait until he was big enough for an adult size that he wouldn't grow out of and could use for a longer period of time than he will be able to use this youth size bike for. This is great for him now.
