Smooth riding bike,

I bought this bike for my 11 year old son who is currently 5'6" and growing. I chose the free shipping and originally Amazon estimated it to be delivered two weeks after I put in the order. It actually came one week later and I was able to track it through UPS after Amazon sent me the tracking number. I feel that I got a great deal since there was no tax and no shipping charges -- I also saw the price go up $15 in less than a week.
It came almost fully assembled -- thank goodness! My brother said he would help but I found that it was best to go to a local bike shop to put on the wheel and handlebars. At the same time, they made sure it was adjusted properly and in safe working order. Although I got it done for free (it was through a friend), I would have paid $20-25 to have make sure that it is done properly. I live in New York City -- this past weekend was beautiful weather here and I asked my kids if they wanted to go bike riding in Central Park. My son, which I found out later, was scared to get on his new bike because he thought it was too big for him. I took it instead (I'm 5'5") and it was a pleasure to ride. I may add that I haven't been on a bike in many years. I wasn't sure if it was too big or would I understand how to use the gears, but everything went fine and it was perfect, especially with the adjustable seat. It rode very smooth and I really enjoyed it. I probably will order the same bike for myself as I don't have one currently. I think since he sees that I was able to ride it, he is less scared of trying it. I would highly recommend this bike and it was a very good experience ordering something through Amazon -- my first time.

I bought this bike for myself to get back into shape since at 50 I was a little out of shape.I chose this Schwinn High Timber because of the style which is perfect for someone like me with a bad back (no need to lean hunched over). The Bike arrived Friday afternoon it took less than 1/2 Hr to put together, the only delay was adjusting the front brake to get the wheel on and re-adjusting the brake for riding (loosen cable to release brake & tighten back after you install front tire ).The seat is a little hard but Im no teenager so I bought a seat pad to ease the hardness .After everything was checked over I took the bike down by the lake which has hills & winding paths . The Schwinn High Timber ran great, easy shifting and smooth ride. The bike does not come with a water bottle but I bought a Schwinn bottle & cage For $15 dollars at the store there are 2 allen screws on the frame to mount it with ease. I hope this review helps because there were none when I bought mine But this is a great bike for any age and Great Price

Back to Bike Riding,

One of the main reasons I wanted a bike was for basic "around town" transportation and to and from work. Especially now, with the price of gas and auto insurance. I'd thought that riding a bike would be easier on the pocket book. And having looking around for a nice affordable bike, I thought that the Schwinn would fit my bill, perfectly. I knew that they made a nice quality bike, was one of the strong points, and it is. I was luck enough to have seen the bike first hand at my local K-mart, and I was impressed with it. Especially since they have them basically fully assembled for no extra cost. I did have to local bike shop help me to center the handle bars and I bought a tire level. But basically the bike rode great, and the brakes and gears were easy to use. I was surprised how smooth the bike rode, just for having it right out of the store. It had been many years since I really ridden a bike, but I was the best so far. I had one other small problem, I had to level out the bike seat, but I fixed that problem, myself. But basically, I think that bike did provide the best bang for the buck. If those wanted to really take it off road and ride it on the trail, I'd switch the tires for something more knobby and maybe, see about tuning the front shock forks, if that were possible. But it's Ok, for regular street use and for a nice ride in the park. I'd recommend it, if you want a nice bike without the big buck price tag.

I was looking for a cheap bike to hold me over until I could afford a TREK or other mountain bike. I saw this and it was dirt cheap. When this baby came I was flabbergasted. It came with the SAME frame I was going to buy that was on the TREK bike. I quality of this bike far surpasses its cost. The Sram brakes, the Shimano gears, the rims, the seat, the handle bars, all top notch. ESPECIALLY the fork. My BMX bike buddies LOVE the fork on this bike. The only problem, the pedals. Cheap plastic. Went out and bought some Animal pedals and this bike is now my main bike. I have taken it through its paces, jumping down long stairs at parks, riding down long concrete stairs at trick biking spots in NYC and I have been keeping up with BMXers on my mountain bike! This bike should be at least 3x the cost. Grab it while you can!

This is a really nice bike. I got it about 2 years ago, and I have had absolutely no problems with it. The brakes are still great (they work really well, and I haven't had to replace them) and I've had no problems with the shifters. The bike is light and easy to ride and it coasts wonderfully. I can beat a friend on this bike pedalling normally while they're pedalling as hard as they can. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone! I love it!

Perfect bike for anyone.,
This review is from: Schwinn High Timber Men's Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
I purchased this bike last year. The first six months I had it, I probably rode 40 miles on it. Since April I have probably put over 250 miles on it. When I took it out of the box, I noticed there were no instructions to put it together. With a little mechanic ability and common sense it will take about 30 minutes to install and set up. I also went around the bike and made sure that all bolts were tight and nothing was broken before I rode it. The first thing I noticed was the pedals were not of a high caliber, they worked fine for 9 or so months until I replaced them with a better set. The second thing I noticed was after a few months of riding it on trails, the bolts on the stem started loosening up, with a little loc-tite they were fine until I replaced it with a 2 piece stem. I have also changed the handle bars, grips, seat and bar ends, they didnt need to be replaced but added more comfort. Other than that I have no complaints. It is my main bike and I ride it probably 12-50 miles a week now on trails here in Virginia Beach. It is a very smooth ride and shifts very smooth as well. I have been very happy with it and I bought my wife the Ranger MTB. It was a very good purchase as well, and she is happy with it. If you are not looking to buy an expensive bike for trail riding, cruising the beach or commuting and are not to upset with replacing a few parts when they wear out, then this is a perfect bike. I recommend it to everyone. If you are looking for a race ready off road mountain bike, or one without issues, go to your local Performance bike shop and purchase one from them.

The bike shipped quickly and with all the parts, but i found it difficult to assemble. The directions and schemes were inconclusive and indescript, so i took it to a pro shop to have it assembled properly (cost $40. i believe improper assembly could account for some of the problems in the other reviews listed above).
I use the bike for commuting to which it fulfills its purpose nicely. I live in Atlanta and the roads/sidewalks here are in terrible shape. The bike handles the broken pavement and sidewalk "jumps" rather well. The rubber handlebars tend to slip off, which is annoying. Occasionally, the chain will fall off of the gears during shifting. I found this especially annoying, but don't use that particular gear often anyway. Other than those two things, the frame construction and parts operate properly. Like other reviewers, I am skeptical of this bike's off-road performance. I would limit this bike's utility strictly to commuting. I would purchase this bicycle again if i had the choice, but recommend that the bike get assembled by a bike shop prior to usage.

Great Bike, 25y/o Looking To Ride Casually,

This review is from: Schwinn High Timber Men's Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
My girlfriend and I were looking to purchase a pair of bikes to start riding around town casually for some excersize. After looking at a few stores like Walmart and Target, I knew that if I ended up buying a bike, I should make sure to get one that was built to last.
I had a chat with one of my friends who worked in a bike shop, and asked him for some advice. Of course, not knowing much about bikes, I already had a list of bikes that I was looking at. Each of the bikes I had listed had "the works" with dual suspension and a high number of gears, all for around 300 which I thought was a great price. After sitting with him for a bit and talking, he made me realize that things like "dual suspension" on bikes really arent worth it unless you are willing to spend a ton of money for a professionally tuned bike. If you are looking to save money, and end up with a decent bike, a hard tail is the way to go. Assembly was no issue whatsoever. The bike already comes fully assembled, all you need to do is pop on the handlebars and the front wheel as well as the pedals. The wheels are already mounted with the tires and the brakes and such are already assembled. One thing that should always be remembered when buying a bike, is that it may need to be tuned. I looked at a couple of guides on how to tune the gears for a bike, and spent a good chunk of my day tweaking and testing. It really isn't that hard, just requires a few common tools (allen key, phillips head) and some time. Basically the process is done to make sure that you can smoothly shift through your gears and that you arent getting any rattling from the chain rubbing against the derailleurs. Like I said, this was my first time tuning, and it took me maybe an hour. The bike now shifts perfectly, and makes little to no noise whatsoever :). As always, ordering from Amazon was easy as pie, and highly recommended.

Purchased this bike as a Father's Day gift. Did not want to spend a lot of money as was not sure the bike would be used all that much even though the husband swore he was committed to getting more exercise. He had mentioned features that he felt important. Researched the local stores and online outlets extensively and decided upon this one as most cost effective. The bike arrived in 2 days which was about 4 days too early as I had to hide it. Easy to assemble as most parts already together. Husband did spend a couple of hours tuning the gears. He is comfortable doing that but you will have to pay to have it done if you cannot do it on your own. There are instructions to help you. This model seemed to be only available in matte green and would have preferred another color choice. The color online did not represent the actual color - slightly different and was good my husband was not too picky about color. Overall a good deal for the money.

Schwinn High Timber Men's Mountain Bike
$153. was a good buy for a 59 year old who just wants to exercise. Easy assembly, despite the Taiwan translation through illustration. It just required a bit of tweeking. Even shifts ratios, good tires, comfortable jelly seat and front suspension. Excellent performance on dirt paths, be-bopping over roots and gravel. Light weight enough for me to lift onto a train or bus rack for Metro travel. My first bike was a Schwinn, I was thrilled with it and am thrilled again! |
