I was ready to give our friend here a single star review...until I discovered the real problem. The packaging comes with no instructions inside the box nor printed on the back of the box. While it would seem fairly straight forward...you wind the robot up and away he goes. Well, so you would think. The first one I received did not move at all after a few turns of the key. A couple more turns...nothing. So, I asked for a replacement and found this unit also did not operate. Two defective robots off the assembly line? Missing a few "Spacely Sprockets" or "Cogswell Cogs" in the works? Here is where instructions would have helped for us humans that are robot-challenged. Apparently, and again, there are no instructions and I assume this is correct, you must pull up on the ring antenna on his head to "release" the gears for the robot to march forward with his gears spinning and sparks flying. To stop the action you need to either let him wind down or push back down on the antenna. And how are we to know this? It is a fairly delicate decorative toy and I would never assume to go around yanking on parts that have no markings whatsoever. That is never a good idea, robot or not. A little instruction slip with maximum recommended winds and a hint about the hidden "on/off" switch would certainly help to prevent breakage and needless returns. Also, it should have a disclaimer on this note mentioning that it is not a true "toy" and is recommended for older children and adults in case someone does not read the full Amazon description or receives it as a gift. After all this, while delicate, it is a nice little functional robot that walks, has visible spinning gears and sparks just as he is "programmed" to do. I love it. Minus one star for the lack of instructions. PS: I now see that the antenna as the on/off switch has now been added to Amazon's description, but there still should be a short warning / instruction sheet included to avoid confusion and possible damage. Busy people giving gifts are not going to recall specific details about the online description weeks later.

A blast from the past!!,

This toy is an excellent show piece for any collection. Whats the deal with all of the negative reviews? There's a sticker in the back of the box that says "For Collectors- Not safe for children". So if your looking for a gift for some 3 year old, please look else where. This toy is for ADULT COLLECTORS ONLY. As for the Robot itself, its great!! I really digged the bright colors and the black tin paint job. The chest even sparkles too! I've had this robot for almost four years now and it still works great!! And to add the cherry on top, the box has the most amazing artwork and it really looks great on a shelf next to the robot. So if your into retro toys from the past, then look no further. Even though its a reproduction, it still looks great in any collection. Overall, I would highly recommend this toy. By the way for those of you reading, please ignore all of the negative reviews. Apparently people are stupid enough to give this to a toddler.

The product is a cool fun novelty but does not work as the description claims. The chest does spark light but the eyes DO NOT light up. For that I was slighty displeased but the robot is just a fun novelty to have from back in my childhood and a great conversation piece for dinner parties.

My son loves robots... so we bought him this one for his 5th birthday. He loves it!!! We taught him how to play with it properly so it doesn't break. He's had it for over a month now and it still works. Very neat collectible toy! We'll be getting him another one for Christmas.

I bought this as a gift for an adult family member. She loves robots, and robot related things. This guy made her quite happy. He's fairly easy to operate and we've had no problems or system failures. When I ordered him, I thought the sparks came out of his mouth, sadly that is not the case. He does have sparks, but they're in his chest behind the plastic...safety first I guess. :-/This little guy may not be appropriate for a young child, but he's very cool. Plus he scares the dog, which is a bonus. |
