5.0 out of 5 stars Great Traditional Piggy Bank
My granddaughter and I searched high and low for a good, classical piggy bank. It was surprisingly difficult to find one that wasn't tacky or that didn't look cheap. This is a wonderful bank, not of porcelain, although the same style is offered in ceramics, but of a durable rubber material that will endure. This bank was more expensive than others, but is a quality...

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't get the money OUT!
I bought this bank for my 3 year old daughter. She loves it--it's everything all the reviewers said, cute, durable, etc...

BUT! It's VERY VERY VERY HARD to get the coins back out the bottom. There's a "lip" of rubber all around the edge of the opening that makes it nearly impossible to get your finger in and scoop out coins. Plus, the pig's legs are hollow...

BUT! It's VERY VERY VERY HARD to get the coins back out the bottom. There's a "lip" of rubber all around the edge of the opening that makes it nearly impossible to get your finger in and scoop out coins. Plus, the pig's legs are hollow. When you shake the bank to get all the coins to the bottom so you can get them out, most of them fall into the legs. It's very frustrating for her, and even I have a hard time when she asks me to fish out her money for her.

The Rubber Piggy Bank was perfect for my 2 year old great niece. She carries it everywhere she goes, ties a balloon to it, gives it a ride in her wagon....and if she drops it....it doesn't break...and she can't get hurt. It is perfect!

I bought this bank for my first, second and THIRD grandsons. It is wonderful! Finally, a durable and non-breakable piggy bank. My grandsons love to put their money in this bank. They are able to pick it up and carry it around if they want without fear of broken glass should they drop it. It is a wonderful tool for teaching them to save money. When it gets full, my daughter takes the money out and counts it with them, then takes it to the bank to deposit into each of their respective bank accounts. The boys understand where their money is and how it gets there.

Since the banks were identical she used a permanent marker to mark the bottom of the paw on each bank with each grandson's initial. I wish they would come out with another one with a different scarf for girls too. I'm sure it would be easy to make one if you are so inclined.

1.0 out of 5 stars good for older kids, June 22, 2009

This is a perfectly well-made functional piggy bank. If, however, you plan to take the money out with any regularity (say, your 3-year-old's favorite game is to put coins in, then have you empty the bank so she can do it again), I don't recommend it. The coins fall down into the legs and are very difficult to get out of the hole, which is in the tummy of the pig.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a Rubber Piggy Money Grubber, August 17, 2011

Times are tough all over. The economy's circling the bowl, and most of our cash is being flushed down with it. But some financial fat cat once said you have to spend money to make money -- Alan Greenspan? Donald Trump? Scrooge McDuck? I forget -- so I've been on the lookout for products to help me invest more jackpottily for the future.

I figured the least I could do is save my money securely. So I bought this bank and stuffed my change into it for the last few weeks. That worked great.

Only now I need to get my money OUT, and the pig isn't having it. I tried shaking it through the hole in the bottom, sucking it out with a vacuum cleaner, even reaching in with salad tongs like I was playing a game of for-profit porcine Operation. Nada.

Reluctantly, I finally decided to smash the thing with a hammer. Unfortunately, I forgot that the bank's made of rubber -- not ceramic -- so instead of breaking it, the hammer bounced back and I smacked myself in the eye.

Now I've got a shiner, and all my money for an ice pack is in the stupid pig. I've heard of 'penalties for early withdrawal', but this is ridiculous.

This piggy bank is so cute, but much larger than I expected. That would be fine, but due to the hollow legs and lip on the inside of the coin hole, it is so difficult to get the coins back out. I bought it for my young son and he gets very frustrated. I try to get his money back out and I get frustrated too.

Sturdy product. A few cotton balls stuffed into the legs prevent money from getting stuck. It did arrive with a few blue smudge marks that we haven't been able to remove.

4.0 out of 5 stars Piggies, May 3, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Schylling Rubber Piggy Bank (Toy)
Purchased for my 4 year old nephew & 2 year old neice. They love 'em, and frequently carry them around the house, dropping them, turning them over, & generally treating them like kids that age treat everything, with no ill effects.

They are larger than the pictures make them seem, and can fit a good chunk of change. Everything in the body is hollow, right down to the toes. (Not certain about the movable head.)

The only issue (as others have mentioned) is the blue coloring that seems to come from the packaging onto the pigs. It does scrub off, but it'd be nicer if one didn't have to clean 'em before anyone's played with 'em.

Excellent bank for little ones. Soft, cleanable, durable, and happy. Fill it with The new one dollar coin or the two dollar bill so the kiddies won't want to spend it!
