2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
It does not look durable at all, and is much smaller than i thought it would be. The child i'm given it to will still love it cause he loves trains, but i'd put money on him breakin it in less than a week.

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter who loves Thomas the Tank Engine. I initially searched for Thomas the Tank Engine trains, railroad tracks etc... but also looked at other toy trains. I picked this one because it moves, isn't overpriced, doesn't require batteries, and is simple enough for my daughter to wind up herself after a few tries with minimal supervision to ensure she doesn't wind it up too much that the spring breaks. The price was also good at around nine bucks. It comes with a detachable key to wind it up. If you lose things easily, this may not be for you. I have no problem with it and always keep it in the same spot far from her reach so she doesn't "accidentally" wind it up too much while mama isn't looking.
Here are some pros and cons that OTHER BUYERS may want consider:

PROS:
-Beautiful shiny train. The size is also perfect for my 3 year old.
-It's affordable so if it breaks I won't regret spending too much on it and can easily replace it.
-No batteries or track required.
-No assembly required.
-When properly wound up, it moves fast and far on tiles and flat hard surfaces.
It MOVES, doesn't just sit there waiting for my child to play with it and push it to it go an inch or two. She gets such a kick out of watching it go all over the place and giggles while she chases it or runs away from it and is always excited when it's time to wind it up again and set it free.

CONS:
-Doesn't move on carpets which may or may not be an issue for other people looking to buy it. It's not an issue for me since I expected as much.
-Some supervision is required. The material is soft enough that if my little girl decided to step or stand on it, it would bend. You'll also want to supervise until your child knows when to stop winding.
-It can get stuck when it hits an obstacle, so it works best and goes on longer if you set it on a clear path. Still the front and back wobble enough that sometimes it will turn and continue, but not always.
-Some parents might think it's too small. I think its perfect for our needs.
-Your child may have trouble winding it up initially. A tip is to show them that they need to place one hand underneath the front wheel so it doesn't go as they wind it. It takes a little practice but worth it when your little one learns she can do it.

There you have it. I'm overall happy with it.

I may post some measurement for those of you who are interested.

My son loves everything trains!

This was a tough item to find, but well worth the fun for him.

It is sturdy and takes a beating from little ones and still works.

My friend's grandson was coming on the train to visit her, and he was VERY excited about the train ride--and to see Grandma, of course. At three and a half, he loves his toys that move and make noise, so I thought a wind-up train would be fun for him to bring along.

Sure enough, he loved this "Streamline Train" and couldn't wait to show off the way it TURNS if you aim it the right way. Apparently a train going in a big arc is much more exciting that a train running straight across the room. Isn't that good to know?

This little toy is good value for money. I'm sorry it's not available from Amazon at the moment but when it's restocked, you might want to think of the little ones in your life, who probably have plenty of toys with batteries, circuitry and software. Trains played an important part in the history of North America, and isn't it nice to see children getting in touch with our past as well as our future?

Only complaint is that it's easy to lose the key. My four your old loves it and it goes very fast.

My 4 year old grandson loved this train. I had taken the windup key off and gave it to his mother since he has a baby brother and didn't want him getting hold of it. And I worried the key would get lost. He didn't realize there was a key so he played with it without the windup and still had a blast. The key could probably be glued on; we didn't have the right kind of glue.
