Book Description

December 23, 2008
Discover timeless wisdom and practical information on the power of thought, positive self-esteem and personal achievement from the secrets buried in a long forgotten classic book from 1911. "The Science of Being Great" is the third part in Wallace D. Wattles' series that started with "The Science of Getting Rich" and "The Science of Being Well". Wattles says about this extremely practical companion to "The Science of Getting Rich" that "The Science of Being Great" is in the first place for "the men and women, young or old, who wish to make the most of life by making the most of themselves." This book teaches the principles of true greatness and shows you how to turn your ideals and dreams into reality.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

A progressive social reformer and New Thought pioneer, Wallace D. Wattles was born in 1860 in the United States. He popularized creative-thought principles in his groundbreaking classics The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Great, and The Science of Being Well. An inspiration to on future generations of success writers, he died in 1911.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1885, Robert Collier distilled New Thought, metaphysical, and success principles into a popular and influential pamphlet series, collected into a single volume as The Secret of the Ages in 1926, and later revised by Collier in an expanded edition in 1948. He died in 1950.

Born in 1866, Charles F. Haanel achieved success as both a businessman and an author, rising to top positions at numerous corporations in his native St. Louis. Often called the "Father of Personal Development," Haanel was among the earliest writers to popularize the "Law of Attraction." He published The Master Key System as a correspondence course in 1912 and collected his lessons into a single volume in 1917. He died in 1949. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From AudioFile

The core of Wattles's 1911 book is expressed in the first five minutes of this charming audio. He says that in our own way and at this time in history, each of us has the power to rise above our circumstances and limitations and achieve any kind of life we desire. Though written when many people feared God, the book promotes a more affirming and secure spiritual connection that has an optimistic tone of possibility. Narrator Eliza Foss demonstrates a solid connection with this material and an interesting yet still natural-sounding array of tone and pacing variations. Even more impressive is that her outsized talent does not divert attention from the power of Wattles's timeless message. Essential listening for anyone limited by humbleness or low self-esteem. 5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring book that has stood the test of time!, December 19, 2008
This book was written almost 100 years ago, but it still inspires today. Wattles notes that, "When awakened, man becomes a son of the Highest and all power is given to him in heaven and on earth." He notes you can become what you want to be by virtue of your thoughts.

He also explains that wisdom is the essential basis of greatness and that man can receive wisdom from God. He includes an entire chapter on a mental exercise that helps you to connect with God and thus realize your highest potential.

Once concept I particularly liked is he says that to become "great," you must start by doing small things in great ways. So he says to begin today to be great in your own home and office...in all relations, be just, generous, courteous and kind. When you begin to do even small things in a great way, you will eventually be able to do bigger things in a great way. Your habit of deliberately thinking and acting in the best way you know how will cause you to continually grow until you become a great person.

This is a very quick read, but a very inspiring one. I would recommend it to anyone who aspires to be a better person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Written in 1911 and matches Eckhart Tolle, July 31, 2008
Wallace D. Wattles is a treasure. He was enlightened when he wrote this back in 1911. Every sentence demonstrates "no self" in other words he was fully identified with the collective intelligence. He demonstrates non-attachment, non-judgment, and non-resistance a full 100% throught the CDs. If you love Eckhart Tolle, Byron Katie, Jed McKenna, and other highly spiritually evolved writers, you will love his stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gift for my husband from Amazon, August 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband hasn't accepted the idea of electronic books - he's old school. And this is an older
book. But he hadn't read it before and he really likes it. He is a fan of Napoleon Hill and has
read Think and Grow Rich many times and quotes it to everyone. This one gave him a new wrinkle on
the subject. I try hard to find things he will like and this was a big hit. Thanks Amazon for putting
it in my suggestion list!
