4.0 out of 5 stars DOES THE BIBLE TEACH ACCURATE "SCIENCE"? JUDGE FOR YOURSELF, October 31, 2011
This review is from: Science in the Bible (Hardcover)
As of the time this book was published in 1978, Dr. Jean Morton "has taught school since 1958. She has published many scientific articles and is currently devoting her time to writing a series of elementary school science books for Christian schools."

She wrote in the Introduction to this book, "The Bible is not primarily a book of science: it is a book of salvation, but wherever science is mentioned it is accurate. Many scientific facts, which prove the infallibility of Scripture, are tucked away in its pages... This work was undertaken primarily to illustrate the numerous scriptural references to scientific subjects..."

Here are some quotations from the book:

"It is a common belief among some theologians that 'the pillars of the earth' mentioned in Scripture refer to a Hebrew superstition that the earth rested on actual pillars, or columns... The biblical cosmology is clearly given in Job 26:7, 'He hangeth the earth upon nothing.' In Sccripture, reference to 'the pillars of the earth' is frequently used in a general sense as pertaining to anything which gives support or foundation. Reference to 'pillars' in Job and the Psalms seems more poetical." (Pg. 136-137)
"One of the animals in Job is said to drink up a river. This figure of speech is used to convey the idea of the enormous amount of water that can be consumed by the animal... Both the statement in Job and that in Psalm 119(:136) have been considered as errors by some. Neither is an error; they are figures of speech." (Pg. 153)
"Thousands of years before (Ignaz Philipp) Semmelweis suggested that dead bodies were the source of infection, the Scripture warned against touching dead bodies: 'He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days...'" (Num 19:11)(Pg. 265)
