underwater ear trip,

This review is structured on the impressions of my first listening experience of polmo polpo. Rarely does one put an album on and after only the second track, fall into a hyponosis of melodies and noises drowned in deep waters. As the album evolves, one is plunged deeper into the trance and finds themselves at an unexpected underwater dance party. I consider this album quite the ear trip.

PP produce engaging House-styled off-ramps, but rarely exceed at wholly enveloping compositions, only truly accelerating on the final track.

Soundscape. That's what you should be thinking, not music, as music has been understood. Polmo Polpo on this offering is a hypnotic swirl of sound. I first heard this on some indie rock kid's computer in college, then promptly forgot about it for about 5 years, and then randomly had a grain of a memory of only the name. I found it again here, and every time I listen it takes me back to those days. So it has some personal nostalgic pull for me. This disc isn't as digestible as alot of other ambient music, so be prepared. I would almost liken it to a relaxation recording, but its much deeper, as they seem to be just recorded ocean. This smacks of genius. Not noise, but noisy. I guess it can come off as pretentious, but who cares. It makes my ears happy. The artwork is apt for what you will hear.

If you love electronic music and desire an innovative new treasure, Polmo Polpo's The Science of Breath is essential. Here is gorgeously rich ambience beyond comparison. Rottura and Riva are the most stunning spots in this aural, deep-sea thicket brimming with diamonds. Each song spins subtle yet deep ambient, melodic rhythms and textures. Sandro Perri possesses incredible talent, and it clearly shines on this release. New ethereal tethers have been struck here in ways that throb alongside soul and spirit - something most new music falls desperately short of. Truly numinous, I cannot praise this work highly enough. Excellent.
