Editorial Reviews

Which attractive force propels the launch of Rock n' Rollercoaster® at Disney's Hollywood Studios? Magnetism! In this DVD, the Walt Disney Imagineers demonstrate how they use magnets of all types throughout Disney's theme parks. From magnetic connectors that direct guests through attractions like The Seas with Nemo and Friends to playing back sound through audio speakers in Pirates of the Caribbean, Imagineers employ the forces of magnetism in a variety of ways. Students will learn about the attraction and repulsion of opposite poles, magnetic fields and domains, and electromagnets. Each Imagineering DVD includes a bonus try-it-yourself experiment, an interactive assessment to reinforce key learnings, Public Performance Rights for classroom/educational use only, and a printable educator's guide.

Walt Disney believed, "if you can dream it, you can do it," and that belief is at the core of Disney Imagineering; the place where imagination meets engineering. Imagineers use science to create and build unique attractions that delight Disney guests around the globe. This award-winning series uses roller coasters, stunt shows, animatronics, and other irresistible examples to break down scientific principles in a way that is accessible for all learners. Just imagine what you could do if the whole world was your toolbox!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Educational Science Series, September 7, 2009
This review is from: The Science of Disney Imagineering Magnetism [Interactive DVD] (Interactive DVD)
Many science DVD's include great information about science, but very few of them are created specifically for learning scientific concepts. Imagineering is about the science of the Disney theme parks, which you would expect to be fun - what you probably won't expect is how dynamic and clear the learning is. I've watched several from the series and they are all clever, funny and truly useful in teaching science curriculum. Each show has clear learning objectives that are reinforced and built upon during the course of the program. The host (who is wonderful) and everyone he interviews are all real Imagineers, which also helps get kids excited about careers in science. The more complicated or "theoretical" points are reinforced with animation. Each show also includes Try It Yourself experiments. Great product for learning, and for enjoying at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Science at work, or is it science at play? Either way, it's great!, January 12, 2010
This review is from: The Science of Disney Imagineering Magnetism [Interactive DVD] (Interactive DVD)
I've watched the entire Science of Disney Imagineering series, and I'm so impressed. Not only is the video and audio quality fantastic (but really, would you expect anything less from Disney?), but I love the entire thing, from its concept all the way to the finished product. Nearly every week, I see some article on education talking about the need for better science and math content for our nation's students. What makes this series so great is that it's a dynamic and relevant way to explain scientific principles, but even better, it shows kids another option of what a career in science can look like. Keep it up Disney! I can't wait for the next set of titles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, highly recommended way to help get kids excited about science, November 19, 2009
This review is from: The Science of Disney Imagineering Magnetism [Interactive DVD] (Interactive DVD)
"The Science of Disney Imagineering" DVD series continues to blend educational value and fun into a classroom-friendly (or home school friendly) package. Magnetism explores how magnetism is put to use in Disney theme parks, from magnetic connectors that direct guests to playing back sound in popular attractions. the basics of attraction and repulsion of opposite poles, magnetic fields and domains, and electromagnets are also covered. Included are a bonus "Try It Yourself" experiment, an interactive assessment to help reinforce key learning points, correlation to educational standards, public performance rights (for classroom/educational use only), and a downloadable educator's guide with additional activities and resources. A great, highly recommended way to help get kids excited about science.
