Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6-Two titles that open with a simple explanation of the scientific method and safety warnings. The sequential activities begin with basic concepts-electricity flows, forces push and pull-and build knowledge as they progress. Experiments in Electricity include building simple switches and circuits. Electrical symbols are illustrated. Forces asks what force is being applied to move various toys. Newtons are explained and experiments with friction, the forces of gravity, and air are included. The format is clear, photos are bright, all materials for each experiment are listed, and good directions and thought-provoking questions are asked. Boxed sections reinforce and expand the basic experiments. Unfortunately, while the content is most appropriate for the upper end of the suggested range, the format and the age of the children in the photos give the books a younger look. Two titles that may have trouble finding an audience.
