4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and informative; still relevant too, January 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Science Fiction in the Cinema (Paperback)
Surprisingly well-written and informative, you'll learn about some good older films that you might not have heard of before. Since it was published in 1970, it doesn't include the more recent science-fiction films. That's OK since there were great sci-fi films produced in the 50's and 60's. Some of these older films are now classics and are still very enjoyable. Science fiction fans and film buffs won't be disappointed. Interesting photos make this little paperback even more fun. If you subscribe to Netflix, this book will give you some good ideas for your queue.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TERRIFIC BOOK, February 20, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A 1970 book with lots of info about pre-1970 movies and tv, with some great photos, too. From Melies's silent movie A TRIP TO THE MOON to 1960s of PLANET OF THE APES, THE OUTER LIMITS, Bava's DIABOLICK and of course Kubrick's 2001.

THINGS TO COME from the 1930s is over-rated here, and elsewhere back then; now it just seems like stupid junk, even with an h.g. welles script.

There definately were sci-fi movies before STAR WARS, which is reason enough to check out this book.
