This is an excellent collection of updated articles that look into the environment and other aspects of the planet as they change in the twentieth century.

I sit in my hotel room in Doha, Qatar and I watch the local government allow (and promote) exactly the same destruction by the same means as described in this volume. It is a compilation of progress, and lack thereof, since "Tragedy of the Commons." Every adult should read this and consider their role in causing the environmental changes.
