Editorial Reviews

This one took a few spins to sink in...and that may be the most intriguing thing about Mieka Pauley's music. Instead of churning out generic modern pop, Pauley writes and records songs where lyrics are an integral part of the equation. Her songs could be described as slightly moody mid-tempo pop...but they're pushed to the next level due to Mieka's super cool evocative vocals. This young lady is bound to have a long and rewarding career ahead of her. She's smart and she's beautiful...and she's really really talented. The press release that accompanied this disc compared her music to Neko Case and Emmylou Harris...and we can hear slight similarities to both. Pauley is clearly her own artist however with her own unique vision and sound. Lots of folks are bound to react to the puzzling lyrics. And the fifth track ("Never Fuck A Woman You Don't Love") is bound to be talked about for years to come. Eleven breezy intelligent tracks presented in less than 35 minutes. Uniquely inventive modern pop with a slightly different slant. Impressive and totally credible from start to finish... --babysue

5.0 out of 5 stars Sultry irresistable energy and passion. June 30, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I am in love with this woman's voice. In past albums, she created two of the best songs ever made, "The Way it is" and "Lover of Mine", and her cover of "Hallelujah" is a moving experience, truly amazing, but she has since been evolving, refining, and becoming a more perfect version of everything good about the way she sings. And there are no words that can accurately describe that. I thought she was perfect years ago. This entire album "The Science of Making Mistakes" is beautiful, remarkable, and pure. Mieka, you have never sounded better. I am in awe. Bravo! To anyone even considering downloading this album, I promise you will not be disappointed. This is music at its finest.

5.0 out of 5 stars First class unique talent May 25, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Meika appeared as a special guest w the legendary Al Kooper at BB kings in NYC about a week ago. I have been a huge fan of Kooper since I was 15 years old, it's likely that just like Al I will be a huge fan of Meika's for as long as she makes music. She sang her song "you're marked man" a cappella to a packed house that had no idea who she was and captivated everyone. Al's band then backed her up and several hundred people who had no idea who she was & had come to see Kooper and had no idea who she was became hooked as was I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gritty and awesome October 28, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Meika appeared earlier this year at Mountain Stage in West Virginia. From the moment she opened her mouth, the crowd was hers. I've listened to this CD countless times since then (and skip #5 with the kiddo in the car), and it gets better and better. Soulful guitar and lyrics, powerful vocals. Every woman who has experienced the dating scene should own this.

Mieka Pauley is great. Have seen her in two live shows - just her and her guitar. Literally. No sound guy. No light guy. No nothing. She does it herself. Her album has some professional polish and backup instrumentation giving a fuller sound. But, it is the lyrics that will get you. This woman has lived.
