Gr 5-8--Gardner begins this book with a fictionalized story of collecting atmospheric samples from three plants as a prelude to the more than 20 experiments. The gases that make up the Earth's atmosphere are introduced along with descriptions of the different atmospheric layers. Experiments range from weighing air to the effects of air pressure. Necessary materials appear in outlined boxes, followed by clearly explained procedures and helpful diagrams. The author does a nice job of choosing materials that will be readily accessible to most readers or that can be made at home; however, some adult assistance will be necessary. "Did you know" fact boxes offer informative tidbits such as the amount of air an average adult man can hold in his lungs and why damp air is less dense than dry air. If you need more science experiment books, this is an adequate purchase.
