5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas July 21, 2013

This is filled with several short/quick science experiments using readily available materials. It is not just mixing stuff and seeing what happens. It really does apply the scientific method to doing the experiments by beginning with a question, coming up with a hypothesis and then testing it and recording results relative to the hypothesis, followed by an opportunity to raise another related question to follow up or move on to the next suggested question. Has pictures associated with the questions being raised. Should be fun learning experience for students and parents or teacher.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I wAs looking for. July 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I teach 2nd grade and was looking for something to go along with life cycles/magnets/shadows to add to my curriculum. This book has one experiment on magnets, but it is something I would do with preschoolers, not 2nd graders. When looking over the other experiments, I'd say this book should be aimed more at 3-7 year olds. The experiments are fine, but so simplistic that they will not wow older kids nor hold their attention. If the book said it was intended for a younger audience, it would have gotten a higher rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Experiments Even For My Pre-Teens July 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My kids had lost interest in home science experiments a year or so ago, but quite a few of these got them interested again, I'm happy to say. Some of these they had already done, as we did a lot of experimenting when the kids were younger! I highly recommend this book, it contains a lot of family fun and learning for everyone!

1.0 out of 5 stars CONFUSED August 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I opened this book to make homeschool lesson plans for my 4 year old, and I was disappointed to find that the title on the outside saying it is for 4-8 year olds doesn't match the title on the inside saying it is for 9-12 year olds. I looked at the experiments, and they seem geared to older than 4. Yet, when I'm reading the other comments, people are saying the experiments are geared more for preschoolers. I'm really, really confused. Is this book for 4-8 year olds or not?
