5.0 out of 5 stars The Science of Structures, December 14, 2004
The Science of Structures
This book introduces structures to students at the middle school level. The many pictures show examples of different buildings and materials. Also pictured are photos with short descriptions of many big tools needed for construction projects. Following types of buildings, materials, and tools, photographs help explain the designing phase. In this natural progression, the planning stage comes next. Here photos and text explain many career opportunities with building a structure. The building phase continues with many structural parts identified. Additional structures pictured include bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers, and towers. Examples of ancient structures and famous tall structures are also featured. Structures found in nature is another section. The book concludes by discussing the impact building structures can have on the environment.
Each section has related activities or puzzler's for that particular topic. Glossary and websites are another feature. This book is easy to read and follow. An excellent introduction to the construction industry.
