The book takes the reader through the process in a logical, step-by-step approach from advanced breed preparation to the application for judging privileges to judging a class and the follow-through activities. It discusses the mechanics of assignments and contracts and travel.
Included in the appendix is a comparative study of several oriental breeds that could serve as a pattern for additional studies of other breeds that are similar. There is also a glossary of commonly used terms.
Available in an accompanying Handbook of Breed Standard Analysis is a short history of each breed along with a show photograph of a top winning specimen of the breed and an analysis in tree-chart pattern of each standard that can be used for quick reference for any point of the dog.
The material contained in this book was gathered during the authors thirty years as a dog show judge. The suggestions of other judges and breeders have been blended into the material along with library-researched information. R.J.B.

A superbly written and organized instruction manual for judging entrees of any and all breeds of dogs,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Science and Techniques of Judging Dogs (Hardcover)
A seasoned and experienced all-breed judge and past Chariman of the Board of the American Kennel Club, Robert Berndt also draws upon his many years of experience as a dog handler in "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique", a superbly written and organized instruction manual for judging entrees of any and all breeds of dogs either in general or in specialized dog shows and competitions. Properly judging dogs requires a detailed and accurate knowledge of breed Standards and type, as well as an expertise in canine anatomy, physiology, and topology. "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique" is an ideal and substantial 276-page, step-by-step, illustrated introduction for the novice judge, and has a great deal of value to offer even the more experienced judges. "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique" is also a critically important reference for anyone entering their dog into competition so they, as a dog owner and/or handler, will know what to expect and prepare for.
