Editorial Reviews

Review

This ambitious and far-reaching book transforms the way we think about the production, distribution, and consumption of the benefits and burdens of science and technology. David Hess uses anthropological perspectives and studies to retell the story of the multiple and contested histories, social relations, and forms of knowledge embedded in scientific practices. His book synthesizes many valuable resources for those of us who practice, learn, or teach science as part of contemporary life. -- Rayna Rapp New School for Social Research --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awful reading., May 4, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This was a required text for an engineering course entitled "International Dimensions of Technology and Culture" at my University that I took as an "international perspectives" core requirement. As the previous reviewer stated, the author's writing style is self-indulgent and he tends to use three or four words (instead of merely two) where just one word will do. Many redundancies are also noted and I found myself thinking that I was going nuts with reading about a matter, then three paragraphs later hearing it again. The author did not just stick with the facts and this text is largely the author's opinion and ramblings about several researcher's findings. I hope a college-level professor can locate a more relevant and well written text to teach from for this topic.

This review is from: Science and Technology in a Multicultural World: The Cultural Politics of Facts and Artifacts (Hardcover)
This is possibly the worst piece of self indulgent nonsense I have ever had the misfortune of reading. This book is good for one thing; recycling.
