5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Ageless Wisdom
This is an amazing book by Wallace Wattles, and was the very book which inspired Rhonda Byrne's journey which culminated in her staging the brilliant project phenomenon "The Secret". I highly recommend Wallace Wattles's compendium of three-books-in-one like this one I'm reviewing. It is ageless, and was written 97 years ago, and as relevant information today as it was...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Science of Wallace D. Wattles
I read the science of getting rich long before I ever found this book. I was interested in finding the other books by the author. The insights provided inside are excellent and worth the read. As Mr. Wattles states you must study them and make them a part of you to get the most out of them. My issue is not with the information, rather it is with the presentation of the...

I've heard so many contemporary books that ape the concepts put forward here, but if you want one of the original "self-help" books, this is it. Mr. Wattles info does sound a bit dated, but this predates "The Secret" or any other books of that genre, and I like it. Not only does this book cover three major subjects, but it does it in a simple, effective way. Get this, get enlightened; it's not a "secret" at all:)

2.0 out of 5 stars The Science of Wallace D. Wattles, June 20, 2008
This review is from: The Science of Wallace D. Wattles: The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Well, The Science of Being Great (Hardcover)
I read the science of getting rich long before I ever found this book. I was interested in finding the other books by the author. The insights provided inside are excellent and worth the read. As Mr. Wattles states you must study them and make them a part of you to get the most out of them. My issue is not with the information, rather it is with the presentation of the book. I was in Barnes & Noble and found their hard cover version of the book: it had a better presentation of the work, nicer print and nicer looking for $4 less, even if you got the free shipping!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, December 21, 2008

I've studied many success materials for the past 3 years. This is one of the best. Wattles' book is much better than Rhonda Byrne's "The Secret," which seems to be a poor rip-off of his book. I don't know of any success advice book older than Wattles'. I think the best success guru is Brian Tracy, but I get as much advice as I can from many authors.

Does this stuff work? Yes it does! But only if you actually apply the advice and pretty much live according to it every day. If you don't use it then it won't do much for you. But if you apply their advice very strongly, then miracles and magic starts happening and your life really takes off and soars. I found that the more strongly I actually do what these gurus advise, the more spectacular my results are. Before I started studying this advice, I didn't know what to do. I felt lost, defeated, and unhappy. I was working in a job that I really hated. Now I have my own successful online business and I make 10 times what I used to make in that crummy job. My business is something I love and is creative, challenging, and rewarding, unlike the mind-numbing, tedious, boring, aggravating jobs I had before. I work at home and I don't have to deal with annoying people or horrible working conditions anymore. I'm 1,000 times happier than I used to be. Successfully making a living working for myself instead of abusive employers is one of my greatest lifelong dreams and I'm deleriously happy, giddy, and proud of myself for having achieved that. I hate working for other people SO much. They treat you so badly and they pay you as little as they can and it's exactly like you're a slave. Well I'm not a slave anymore! I earned my FREEDOM!!! I can tell all the employers out there to go **** themselves! And now that I know how to succeed in business, I can definitely see myself becoming a multi-millionaire in the next few years for real. I still study success advice from many different sources almost every day because I want all the help I can get to become a multi-millionaire and maybe even a billionaire someday.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Science of Wealth..., January 27, 2008

This book is a must for anyone wanting to improve their lives. I'm a chronic underliner who underlines every thought I feel is important. I've underlined the entire book. The book was written almost 100 years ago, but the sage wisdom is just appropriate now. I am reading the book for the second time and will keep reading it until I ingrain the concepts. Kaye Loraine

4.0 out of 5 stars More Practical than "The Secret", September 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive." ~ pg. 39

If you want to know the philosophy behind The Secret then you might enjoy reading "The Science of Wallace D. Wattles." He is much more practical and indicates that you should change your thinking but also change your actions. Action is definitely required to achieve health and wealth. If you are interested in becoming a great person then the final chapters of this book indicate a way to achieve such a dream.

At first Wallace D. Wattles keeps talking about how you have to "act and think in a certain way" in order to achieve wealth. He spends very little time actually explaining how to act in this way but does explain that you should have a sense of gratitude. Basically his message is "how you think is what you become." This applies to health, wealth and becoming great.

What good is money if you are not also healthy? The second section of this book explains how we all have a healing power within ourselves that can be activated by belief. Wallace D. Wattles believed that it was not the medicine that made you well but the faith you had in the remedy that produced the cure.

While this book has a lot of good ideas about positive thinking there are a few things I didn't agree with. One was the author's idea about not eating breakfast. Instead he says to wait until you feel hungry. Not eating breakfast goes against current wisdom on the matter. In fact most dieticians say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

The second idea I found almost unbelievable was Wallace D. Wattles idea that there is nothing wrong with the world, that everything is as it should be. I also think it is very naïve to say that there is no evil in the world. While Wallace D. Wattles believed in God, he also seems to have believed in evolution. So basically those are some of the things I disagreed with.

"There are altogether too many people who are trying to make something of themselves by reading books without thinking; all such will fail. You are not mentally developed by what you read, but by what you think about what you read." ~ pg. 142

I personally don't know how you would even begin to read without thinking but the quote sounds good. I can only recommend this book to anyone who is willing to put the ideas in this book to the test. Many of the ideas seem very New Age for the time in which they were written and if you have read "The Secret" this book will intrigue you. The only real problem with this book is that it needed some editing. If you can overlook that aspect you can still enjoy this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Was So Excited About This That I Bought 5 Copies!, December 28, 2008
Great book on which The Secret is based. Lots of mispellings, pages /paragraphs that end abruptly etc. made me feel as if someone rushed it to market to capitalize on The Secret, but didn't really have the full manuscript. Lots of common sense advice, but I suggest some companion books to like Florence Scovell Shinn, Ernest Holmes and other "New Thought" teachers.
